Pass defense at 37th? Wow. Considering how Toledo and Idaho diced us up, I'm surprised. Cal Poly, being a triple option team means they rarely throw, and Texas had issues outside of short passes when throwing. But first things first, defense HAS to stop the run, period. No more arm tackles, wrap up the ball carrier and bring him down, better yet, drive him backwards. D-line actually has stepped up and limited runs up the middle, but when teams hit the edge, we get sliced and diced on the ground.

Hmmm...Let's see if I've got it right. Seven starters on defense return and THEY all play worse than last year. The defensive scheme has no blame. The defensive coaches have no blame. It's the players. They are the problem. Of all the teams in the FBS they are in the bottom 95%. At least that's how I read DC evaluating it.

I agree.

I do blame players for not making plays, but to say that the scheme is not at least PART of the problem is naive. The scheme must put players in position to make plays.

Jim Harbaugh, coach of SF. Amazing what a "scheme" change does. Basically the same team as the year prior him taking over and night and day difference.

So let's get this straight, according to Christensen, the problem is all on the players. If this is true (which I doubt), then the players need some motivation. My observation is the head coach needs to show a little emotion - he's about as emotional as a boulder sitting in a creek. Bottom line is some of the players are not the least bit motivated by this coaching staff. I do not see this as totally being a player problem. The coaches better get to be a little more concerned about what is going on because they aren't exactly building a great resume or performance report.

Why bother throwing the ball when you can run at will on this defense? We have some solid players in the secondary, so why test them when you can manhandle our defensive line with no trouble at all? I'm still saying that we need a coach in here that will motivate this defense to kick some ass!

I also agree that passing D is a deceiving stat. If teams couldnt run at will against us, then we wouldnt be ranked nearly that high in that category.

can't understand it, usually the cornerstone of our program. I thought with English gone we'd improve but I just don't see it either. Sure hope something turns around and can stop the run a lot better

Not some, most of the players are not motivated by this staff. We have access to the same player pool as everyone else. So is the problem they can't evaluate their talent, can't coach them to their potential, or really do not give a crap about them once they show up on campus. DC doesn't need to worry about his resume, he has Houston in his back pocket... Plus he gets to a bowl game every year. Sure it's Missouri's bowl game and he's only creeping on the sidelines, but he's there!

Same sh*t........isn't me its the players......well you recruited those guys!...losing sucks....and I am sure they are working hard but still WE LOST TO AN FCS TEAM AT HOME! :willybs:
