Penn State's David Taylor from Evanston

David Taylor, a kid I went to elementary and middle school with in Evanston just won the NCAA National Championship at 165lb.

I think he has won a couple titles now, and ended his college career with a win. Crazy.

He won two national championships and he ended his career with only 3 losses in college (2 to Kyle Dake).

He is the best wrestler in the country at the college level and is actually the only collegiate wrestler to go undefeated this year. He has about as good of chance as any of winning a gold medal in the Olympics.

How cum the Pokes didn't get him?
Kind of what I want to know.

David moved from Evanston to the mid-west in 6th or 7th grade so they could have him in some sort of prep school or better wrestling coaches. Essentially saying he needed better competition to get to where he wanted to be.
His senior year in highschool, I think they were living in Ohio, he was at like 125 and was the #1 kid in the country and put on some weight to wrestle the #1 kid at 139 and beat him
David committed to Iowa during his senior year, then de-committed and committed to Penn State.
It should be noted that by his senior year, him and his family had pretty much zero ties to Wyo anymore. I never saw David come back to town and see old friends or family or anything. Someone told me his dad was an Air Force pilot or something and they moved around a lot. I don't know if that part is true though.

David ended up red-shirting his freshman year, then ended up being like a 4 time Big10 performer and 3 time All-American, and couple time national champion.

By the time David got really good, he had been long gone out of Wyo.

And when you are as good as David is, I am sure he would be considered a 5 star recruit with a chance to go any where.
I doubt Wyo was ever on his list.

You should have put the part where he hadn't lived here since the 7th grade in your first post. Kind of misleading without it.

Thought that was implied by when I said I went to elementary and middle school. My bad.

Weird use of "come".

Anyways, Taylor has been close to the Sandersons since he was a kid. He committed to Iowa State when Cael was the coach and then changed his commitment when Cael took over Penn State. He was never going anywhere that Cael Sanderson wasn't at. There could be no better drilling partner than Cael Sanderson.

I'd say he made the right choice. Penn State won 4 national titles and Taylor has improved to a world elite status.

4x Ohio state champ, 2x Natl champ. Dad is a commercial pilot. Moved to Ohio for better competition when he was 11. He used to come to the wrestling room when I was in high school to wrestle with the lower weights as an 11 year old. Impressive then and the best in the business now. Great career!

Great career.
I could have used his help in my fight the other night.
He would've been outweighed but still it would have freed me up.
