With this stupid quiz! I can't figure it out.

You want a shirt that costs $97.00. You don't have the money, so you borrow from mom and dad. $50 from mom any $50 from dad. You buy the shirt with the $100.00. You get $3.00 back in change. You give your mom $1.00 back and you give your dad $1.00 back, and you keep the other $1.00. Where is the missing dollar?
100.00 - 97.00= 3.00
50.00 - 1.00= 49.00

49.00 + 49.00= 98.00 you still owe plus the 1.00 you kept adds up to 99.00 total. Where's the missing dollar?

I know we're talking football on here, but this thing seriously has me going insane! :? :x  :tickedoff:

Not sure why you are so confused.

Under the example, both parents contributed a total of $98 ($49 + $49)

the item cost $97

$98-$97 = $1.00 in change

You are adding the total that both parents contributed and the dollar left over and expecting it to equal $100 when it absolutely should not.

This caught me on my day that I rotate schedules. I've been up since 11am yesterday. That makes since. Guess the extreme lack of sleep and (maybe a shot or two of whiskey) and now out in the field moving bales has me confused...

You subtracted the dollar you gave back from 50 which gives you 49 from each parent. You would then have to subtract the dollar you gave away to yourself which would mean it's 98 minus 1 rather than 98 plus 1. That gives you 97 which is the cost of the item.

All my shirts together don't add up to $97! Oh, and you used the other dollar as a sniff chip on the way home. Problem solved.
