Opinion Question! Shed the light UW fans!

At what point, and in what circumstances, are fans / boosters allowed to "bitch"?

An example.

You are in the War, lots of UW fans around you, energy is high, great atmosphere. You see UW call three straight run up the middle plays and punt. You don't say anything, except to the people around you, inquiring what they thought. UW gets the ball back, does the same thing, with maybe a mixed in bubble screen for loss, and punts again. You think to yourself, "no imagination" "no fire" "why don't they try something else"...

You get heated enough, you start yelling for the coaches to call a different play...to do something else...to have some imagination and show a desire to win.

Is it (at that point) acceptable to voice your displeasure, as a fan / booster you want to see your team win and represent? Or is it unacceptable to voice your displeasure (as you should always support Wyoming regardless and never say anything negative)?

I've never understood this, "you can't say anything negative" mentality.

In the example you gave, you are at the game, paid for tickets, parking, probably concessions, maybe even been to the bookstore and perhaps got a hotel room for the night. You've shown your support, and you are entitled to voice your displeasure. Now if you get extremely vulgar with my kids around, I might say something to you about that, but not about your opinion - I would probably agree with you.

I think it's important for us as fans to voice displeasure when it's there, so that we can hopefully get things changed. In your example, I hate to see a Wyoming team play "to not lose" as you're describing there. Maybe it's a ball control thing, or they're trying to shorten the game (heard that a lot this year and last), but if you don't score points you can't win games.

Besides all of that, you have the right to your opinion, right or wrong. I may disagree with you, and if I do I'll let you know. But you're entitled to say what you want (within reason), especially at an athletic event.

Obviously everyone has their right to say whatever they want. I don't agree with "I spent this money so I'm going to say whatever the hell I want because I paid good money..."

I just don't think it does much good besides create a negative vibe over the team that rarely has the positive effect that is desired. How many times does the team turn it's poor performance around after being booed by its own fans? It's not like the coach is going to say, "Gee golly, thanks for that input, let me call the play you think we should run and it'll be all better." You're doing it for yourself more than the team itself. More often than not it just further drives the stake into the heart and the tail between the legs comes out. I don't think anyone is out there actively trying to lose.

I fully agree with calpoke.

You can voice your displeasure all you want, but all you're going to accomplish is to annoy at least a few people sitting around you and if the coaches even heard you (trust me, they didn't), they would not even consider anything you shouted as relevant to their cause. I also agree that a collective "boo" for your own team has never led to anything positive, ever. How incredibly disheartening that's gotta feel to have the people who are supposed to have your back through thick and thin turn on you.

I know a couple of you will disagree, but if any of us were HC of the Wyoming Cowboys, we would be quite possibly the worst team in the nation. We are fans, some of us smarter than others, but you must also trust me, we are no NCAA FBS coaches.

But you are talking about saying something in private with the athletic directors and I think he is talking about saying something in public. I've gotten to where I just keep quiet about this kind of stuff most of the time except maybe among friends and then move on with my life because I find something else is more important to me.

I would rather have people who cared and said something good or bad rather than not giving two shits. It's sport and if people weren't emotionally invested in the sport team, then what do you have? Nothing. It's sport that brings a bunch of us ,who might not have anything in common, together. Basically a community or family and every community and family has the member who might say inappropriate at times or might get so frustrated that we act dumb and say dumb things. I know that I've been frustrated with the ole lady and end up bitching about something totally stupid and realize, once i've calmed down, that I was just too emotional. In the end, I'd rather see emotional cowboy fans than lame fans.
