On The Topic of Attendance Decreasing

Every season is different for each season per program. Someone said Michigan was having attendance issues. But are they really? They went 7-6. Not so good for a storied program like Michigan. But then again, why did they still average over 100% of their cap ?

There's an article out there somewhere that explains when Michigan began having attendance problems.
Something like friends couldn't sit together, long bathroom lines, expenses etc. I think it began with a new AD.
I'd search for it but I'm up and down right now.

Yep that is exactly what it was.

They used to give the seniors the best seats (50 yard line) then the juniors then sophomores then freshman which would extend to the endzone. It was priority seating, then it turned into first come first serve.

Totally killing many of the pregame traditions I'm sure. No longer could a 21 year old junior or senior go to their favorite bar until 30 minutes before game time, because tons of other students were getting there early enough to take all the good seats.
They used to have certain seats, everyone was happy, then it changed.

Yeah. And Hady Brokes' record is going down each year. Ha ha.

They shouldn't have been awarded that BCS Bowl that one year. Total joke. Everyone knew that Michigan sucked.

I saw the article about that too but was confused because kids were complaing that they used to like it cuz they could go to games and sit with their friends but now they couldn't. That didn't make sense to me cuz of course you still could in fact it would be easier because you could sit with all your friends not just the ones in your class. I wasn't only friends with kids in my class in fact it was mostly people older and younger. But what you said about older kids wanting to stay at the bar longer and still get good seats makes sense.

Good point - but that being said, Gary isn't an idiot. He realized that the Iowa student attendance was trending down at an alarming rate, and went with the scholarship idea to bolster student season tickets.

The trend in college football - as we have discussed in another thread - is that more and more people are figuring out you can watch the game (and many others) with your friends on the 60" at home, and not only will it cost you ton less, you don't have any of the bullshit to deal with.

See I can understand this, because although I made that big post romanticizing game days in fall in Laramie, college football is also about getting together with a group of friends, at someones house, watching games.
But here is the kicker...that is supposed to be ONLY ON ROAD GAMES.

This fall I expect to be at Reser Stadium for every home game doing the whole gameday tradition stuff. But every time the Beavers are on the road, or I can watch a Wyo game, I will be with some groups of people watching.

I just wish more students took an interest in the home game, game day tradition.

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of a blackout in Laramie and Cheyenne for Wyo football games. If you want to see the game, then go. If you can't because of work or other obligations, then you shouldn't be watching it on tv anyway, catch Dave & Kevin on the radio. Honestly, I bet that would get a few people into the stadium knowing that's their only way to see the game.

Regional blackouts are a thing of the past. There is no such thing as a regional blackout in this day and age of internet streaming.

For those of us with tech savvy, no; but I would bet that there are plenty of people out there without the knowledge or means to take advantage of some of the streaming options that we know exist. Even if you know about it, a streaming view onto your computer or laptop (or TV for those with the proper equipment) isn't the same quality as a normal broadcast. I'd be willing to bet that a blackout, while not bringing in thousands, would bring in quite a few extra people to the War.

I hate crappy streams.

Wyo2Dal streams on the other hand....that's a different story.

Well, I would love to know how to stream and go past a blackout, because apparently in Kansas games on MWC online are blacked out. Or even root sports. I cannot get any of those games unless someone else is streaming.

Wyo2Dal usually streams a lot of games live. And he either has the link to it in his sig or linked it in a post of his.

There are a lot of ways to get around them but the biggest issue is it's just not safe anymore. Back in the 90's the streams were less common and far less searched for by broadcast companies.

Today since DirecTV owns Root and they search for any and all streams it's almost not even worth putting a stream up. Not only will it get you in trouble but they will pretty much take anyone to court and turn your life inside out. Hell during Sports seasons they monitor all these forums and send cease and desist letters to the posters and Admin of the sites.

The most common place to find streams will still be the streaming sites that are used the most, TBH it's in your best interest to not post anything about streams on any public forum even if you are just providing a link to the stream they can still sue you over that.

If your going to talk about streams I suggest it be in a private location and make sure you trust who you are talking to it's a dog eat dog world.

It was the Texas stream wasn't it. It's all Texas' fault!

Root wasn't even a part of the MWC back then we still had the MWC Network. We had only been dealing with Root for 2 years if I recall correctly and DirecTV just goes after everyone and anyone they don't care.
