Old Cowboy Rosters

Hi everybody. First time poster. And to be perfectly honest, probably my one and ONLY post unless I come back to say Thank You. Aw to heck with it, I'll go ahead and say Thanks in advance!

I am looking for COMPLETE Cowboy football rosters from long ago, and by complete I mean heights, weights, hometown, etc. Looking for the following years...

1975
1976
1977
1978

I tried the google approach and didn't find much. Figured a Cowboy board would be my best bet. I am from Artesia NM (still live here) and I had 4 high school team-mates on those Cowboy teams in the late '70s.

Johnny Miller
Larry Combs
Cole Boyce
Jackie Clifton

All 4 of these guys played for the Cowboys during those years and ALL of them from Artesia NM. Miller, Combs, and Boyce were all out of the same class. Clifton was a year younger. There was another guy from Artesia NM who played at Wyoming but he came much later, early '80s I believe. He was a QB by the name of Scott Runyan who threw passes to Jay Novacek. I believe Runyan may have set a few Cowboy records.

So if anybody on here has any ideas where I might be able to find complete rosters online from those years it would be much appreciated! Also, would enjoy hearing any thoughts on the guys I mentioned from some of the old timers on here. Thanks!

Welcome!

Wyokie.. I think this one's out there for you, buddy.

Team history yeah. Thatt I could do like the history UW's conference aflilation or head-to-head type stuff

But team rosters from yesteryear, no!

Hell, I couldn't even tell yeah who has the best passer rating in UW history without having to look it up. But if you were to ask me when the last time Wyoming played _______ I could give you an answer without even looking it up!

Short of going full on stalker, you may have already seen the partials here:

Without getting into the details because I don't know them, there seemed to be a schism a few years ago when this free board was created between a few "long time" users of the Rivals gowyogo.com board objecting to a fee structure imposed by the moderator there. Personally, I read this one and that one, as well as the others that have proliferated over the last few years, daily and a lot of times someone with a subscription to post at gowyogo shares information. Something like archived rosters from the 1970's seems to me a perfect topic of discussion at gowyogo and some kind soul and born and bred Wyoming fan may help you out with old info from those years.

Good luck, I hope you're successful in your search. The only thing I know about those years is that right around 1976 is when BYU started getting really good and were winning conference championships frequently. Obviously, LaVell Edwards' plan to personally "reward" sex acts to his top players started to really pay off in the late 1970's. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Being a BYU fan though, well... good luck in the hell on Earth you've created for yourself; you'll receive no sympathy from me.

I wonder if you called the athletics dept. or maybe Coe Library... they may have some sort of archive.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions everybody! I will probably take some of them under consideration. It really wasn't that big of a deal. I just thought that if I could find them online somewhere that I would post them on our high school message board for some of the old timers. I mentioned our high school board...here is a link to the "alumni page" of our high school site. The alumni page just lists the guys who played football at Artesia High School who went on to play college ball. Gives their names and where they played college ball. If you scroll down the list you will notice the names of the guys I mentioned in my original post......

http://www.artesiabulldogfootball.com/Alumni.html

Our high school football board is the biggest and busiest high school board in the State of NM. It doesn't look like it right now because the admins dumped the old football message board about a week ago and started over from scratch, so there are only a half dozen topics or so. Dumped hundreds of pages of topics and posts which kind of ticked me off, but that is beside the point I guess.

Oh yeah, if you click the link for our alumni page you will undoubtedly recognize the Artesia High graduate who is pictured at the very top of the page. He is our most famous alumni, and was the most highly sought after recruit in the history of Artesia High School......a senior on the 2007 team and graduated from AHS in 2008. Just thought I would throw that in there, ha ha. As you can see there used to be quite a football pipeline between Artesia NM and the Univ of Wyoming back in the late 70s and early 80s.

As for the guys I mentioned in my original post who played high school football in Artesia NM and college ball for the Wyoming Cowboys, I know where most of them are today and what they are doing in case anybody is interested. Johnny Miller who played on the o-line for the Cowboys, I have no clue. Cole Boyce, no clue. Larry Combs is a teacher and a coach at Artesia High School. Jackie Clifton works for an oil company in Carlsbad NM. And Scott Runyan who was a Wyoming QB and went on to coach QBs at The Univ of Miami under Dennis Erickson is a retired computer programmer living in Tennessee. Scott is a regular visitor to our high school message board, even though his posts were dumped by the admins.

Thanks again to everybody who offered advice on where to find the old Cowboy rosters, and good luck to the Wyoming Cowboys next season!

Sorry if I bored you guys with all this stuff. Thanks again!

Where's Artesia, New Mexico?

Looks to be about a half hour north of Carlsbad. In the southeast corner of the state.

Yes, exactly. 30 minutes north of Carlsbad and 40 minutes south of Roswell. Pretty much halfway between Roswell and Carlsbad.

Besides my native WYOMING and Hawaii, New Mexico is my favorite place to visit. Whenever my parents and I go back to Wyoming, we go thru the northeasrt corner (Clayton) of the state. Love NM's history.

Try this one, 1976 roster

That's Oklahoma State, not Wyoming.
Maybe a bot? Because only a bot or a complete moron/BYnerU fan would post something like that on a site called Wyonation.
