Tulane, of all schools, is expected to join the Least.

I guess they're "Western" when compared to West Virginia!

To me that says Fresno said no and that there is a real possibility that Boise and SDSU come back AFTER next year. Remember the Big East still is an AQ next year. There is no way Air Force leaves now.

Tulane's record in football the past 4 seasons:

2009: 3-9 overall, 1-7 CUSA
2010: 4-8, 2-6
2011: 2-11, 1-7
2012: 2-6, 2-10

That's a quality addition right there. Let's take a look at men's basketball:

2008-09: 14-17, 7-9
2009-10: 8-22, 3-13
2010-11: 13-11, 3-17
2011-12: 15-16, 3-13

Not sure they "come back". There is a lot of talk of BYU/Boise beginning a new conference involving the potentially-spurned BE schools + some MWC schools. Another "market-based" conference. At the end of the day, the MWC's T.V. deal (or lack thereof) will be its undoing.

Craig Thompson had better get it in gear, or there will be another WAC/MWC-like split here soon.

Looks more like the Least is setting these schools up for failure in the future, especially if the ACC/Big 12 take any more schools. Because if the b-ball only schools get the majority vote, it sounds like they'll either kill off the football side or dissolve the conference completely.

Crazy times man

I'm pretty sure that BSU and SDSU are hoping the basketball schools vote to dissolve the conference...otherwise they are on the hook for exit fees from the "Big East".

No kidding. They just joined C-USA 2.0.

You couldn't be more right.

Big East 2004 (football only):

Boston College - now in ACC
Syracuse - now in ACC
Miami - now in ACC
Rutgers - now in B1G
West Virginia - now in Big XII
Virginia Tech - now in ACC
Temple - was kicked out of Big East, now back in Big East

CUSA 2004:

Cincinnati - now in Big East
Louisville - now in Big East
South Florida - now in BIg East
Memphis - now in Big East
UAB
Southern Miss
Tulane - now in Big East
Houston - now in Big East
East Carolina - now in Big East
Army - now independent
TCU - now in Big XII

let's just build a strong well to do conference inside our own, then over the course of time they can't over look us for being solid and (hopefully) worthy in a few years

It's like it's 2AM and the Big Least is drunk and horny and looking to take anyone home, even the fat chick in the corner

SDSU fans on the mesa board are in denial, and many still seem to think they can build a new Western conference. With who, I have no idea, but they are adament about it. Some even suggested reviving Big West football, of all things.

That might be the dumbest fan base on the world wide interweb. Looking down at Wyoming's attendence when theirs isn't much better....and they live in a city of almost 3mil. Two years of mediocre football will do that to idiots.

Personally, I hope SDSU goes to the BE as I sure in the hell don't think we need them in the MWC.

I have no contacts, no sources, and virtually no intelligence...yet, I would surmise a 'wait and see' approach would be best for BYU.

If Scott tries another 'reach' (I know he has said the PAC is standing pat for now but.... ) then the Big XII might be in another fix and have to scramble to replace their underbelly institutions. I know the cumbaya crap and the big penalty arguments would seem to preclude such a scenario. However, the DIV I terrain is already different from five months ago.

I haven't had the time to look at it but, one of my betting buddies swears the conferences are going to shoot for 16 teams to try and land two teams in the big bowls every other year. He swears the math for this trumps TV contracts (which are already high and tweaking is allowed), 'more mouths to feed', exit penalties, etc...

BYU would probably do well just to sit on things for awhile. I honestly don't think BSU has the clout it did a year ago (just from looking at the lack of exposure this past year). If they lose to Nevada on Saturday, I think many of the Cinderella journalists will write them off the map. If it hadn't been for the Big East stuff, I doubt we would have heard anything of substance about them the entire year. SDSU has even less clout.

This is all so Byzantine. I will bet Congress looks at it again after the Fiscal Cliff shenanigans.
