Not who we thought they were

Obviously last night was hard to watch. The defense was atrocious the offense while being improved wasn't spectacular either. This game goes down as a reality check for me, we are obviously a program at the bottom that needs to be built from the ground up and I still believe Bohl is that guy, it just might take longer than we would like.

Someone mentioned Jerry Kill in another thread and how he had to rebuild Minnessota and the struggles in doing that for several years before this year being a break out. I believe it will be the same for Bohl we will struggle for the next 2-3 years and might be looking at several 2-4 win seasons ahead, but we need to be patient and ride this out because the way he builds programs takes some time.

I hope last night was not who we really are and we come back and get a W against San jose next week, but the reality is we are a rebuilding program that won't see the benefits of this coach until year four or five. The first three wins gave us hope that maybe we could be something more, last night brought us back to the reality that it will be a tough year like many on here predicted. Here's to hoping that this time the rebuild is actually fruitful like Kill with the gophers and Bohl can give us a turnaround like that, but we will all have to suffer through another rebuild process before we can see what he is really made of as a coach.

And I got shit before the game for saying that I wasn't sure what kind of team we have. We may have games where things fall into place, but I think we will continue to struggle this year and next as we go through some growing pains.

Reasons we will struggle this season and next: Switching from a spread to pro-style offense. Changing defensive schemes. Having a short recruiting timeframe. Not having the athletes the schemes require.

As fans we are tired of waiting for the train to arrive. But to be fair to the coaches, the players, and their system, we really do have to have to wait a couple more years for recruiting and player development. In football, it's nearly impossible to right a sinking boat in less than one season.

Good post.

Patience will be important. Next week is VERY important. Lose to the Spartans, and a possible 6-game losing streak late in the season may be on hand, something Poke fans are all too familiar with.

I'm a tad worried about the defense. We've been duped too many times into believing in this unit early in the season, only to see them falter late in the season. I've watched Hawaii and Woolsey play every week except last week, there is absolutely NO REASON they should have carved up Wyoming for 500+ total yards. Inexcusable. 38 points is a big and foreign number to Chow and his offense. I hope this isn't the beginning of this unit down-trending for 2014.

Anyways, time to move on. There it is, Wyoming's classic inexcusable midseason loss. Like clockwork. But this team needs to have a bad memory and move on. This season is far from over, and but if they drop the homecoming game to SJSU....

I 100% disagree about not who we thought they were.
This is exactly who we thought they were.
A not so good team in an even worse conference that might end up winning several games in a row to make a run in the MTN division or could end up losing several games and have yet another losing record.

Wyo is a team that will be carried by Wick, with the occasional good play by Kirk, mixed with Wick being shut down for several drives and Kirk getting sacked and throwing pics. And on defense the team is a team that is trying to do the bend but not break, and rely on turnovers for wins. Horrible secondary mixed with individual talents and decent LB and D-Line units.

Wyo can still win some games, and can still lose some games.

IMO nothing has changed from 2 weeks ago. Sure there might be less hope, but tracking the teams play from game to game, the results are consistent.

I, myself, am not too worried yet. Yup, we just lost to Hawaii, on the island at almost 3:00am our time. That is what I call using home field advantage. They could easily make their home games be day games, but the intentionally make them evening games, because it back home for their opponents, it's bedtime. That's how Hawaii has always been tough at home. They did this with Washington, Oregon st., even Rice, and the almost pulled some upsets.
Hawaii, as bad as they are, is an extremely tough road game.
I'm not labeling us bad yet. It wasn't like we got blown out. Also factor in that we were losing players to injury at inopportune times, which also made us struggle, especially on the Def side of the ball.
I'm anxious to see how we come out next week against SJSU. I think we are better than we showed.

We did have a season high in scoring though!
...but the defense coughed up 38 points to Chow and Woolsey. That tandem made Rice look like Alabama last week.
