Not to dig up old wounds but does anyone actually know why

Brandenburg left? This is one of the great mysteries of Wyoming athletics and I want to know the answer before I die.

Brandy said he left because he was mad. Who was he mad at and what was he mad about?

He wanted to be the new Athletic Director. UW said no and gave the title to Paul Roach so, Brandenburg got pissed off and left.

Man oh man think about the legacy and powerhouse he woulda built at UW and Dome of Doom, coulda woulda shouda...man those were fun years!!

Thanks. I figured it had to be something to do with his job. I thought he probably asked for a raise and didn't get it. That makes sense. I don't think anyone could argue that Roach wasn't the right man for the job, but I sure wish it would have went down different. With Brandy's ability to recruit Texas and Colorado and his ability to develop players he was the perfect fit.

SDSU made him a lot of unfulfilled promises. He wanted a new arena. They promised him one. It didn't get built until the late 90's. By then, he was already done.

I thought a lot of it was due to SDSU.

I know they promised him a lot of support and facilities that they weren't capable of providing at the time. They didn't fulfill the promises until about 5 years after he left and they brought in Fisher.

He admitted that he made some mistakes out there too. He said he shouldn't have tried to build a program from high schoolers in San Diego. He should have recruited j.c. players, transfers, and other risky players. Fisher came along and did that and look what he's done.

That seems like it's the best way to re-build programs.
Getting a bunch of HS players won't change the win-loss culture, unless you can get 4 and 5 star recruits.
Shyatt got a handful of transfers and it is looking good. I am stoked for this season.

As someone who was around then, I had no idea that's why he left. I'd heard he had asthma and that his health would be much improved at sea level. Then I heard his wife hated Laramie and basically made him take another job.

The state of Wyoming was still suffering due to the collapse of energy prices back then. I'd read that Roach actually had to argue to some state committee that we should not drop to division 2 to save money.

Crazy - I've heard a few different reasons. It would be really interesting to know which one(s) are correct.
