No NIT for Wyo

If the NIT picked their teams just like the NCAA did they I can understand why we got left out. NCAA this year picked teams based on OOC schedule strength and if the NIT did the same then Wyoming's was bad. Maybe we will play in the CBI or something.

Just too many good teams this year. It hurt that Wyoming finished below TCU in the conference.

I think we lost our bid when CSU got into the NCAA because that moved Oral Roberts down who in turn took the #4 seed which was the same seed Wyoming was predicted to get.

If Oral Roberts would have gotten into the NCAA then CSU would have got an NIT bid over Wyoming anyways so that didn't matter. Wyoming was predicted as a 4 seed like two weeks ago before they lost the last two games. Last week before the loss to UNLV in the tournament Wyoming was predicted to get a 6 seed so we were already trending down then we lost that last game. There were 120 teams this year with 20 wins or more. Just too many teams with good records and then Wyoming finishing 6th in conference and having a weak OOC schedule hurt us the most in my opinion.

Is Iowa one of those too many good teams at 17-18 overall and a similar conference record as the Pokes and an RPI in the 130s?

They just announced the teams for the CIT and no go for Wyoming nor TCU. Norway does Wyoming not get into the CBI which will be announced in the morning. Good luck we will be cheering for you I think you will win that tourney.

Doesn't make sense - someone just got screwed. Look at the facts:

Pokes RPI = 83. Now look at some that got into the game: Stony Brook 139. Savanna State 190. Texas Arlington 108. Illinois State 101. Bucknell 91.

And besides, the Pokes beat 3 teams going to the NCAA. All a matter of politics and sucking, I guess.

Once you get down to 70-100 "seeded" teams in the country I would guess that many of those teams have week OOC schedules and then even weeker conference schedules simpley because they play in a week conference. I don't have too many complaints about the NIT field, most of the teams have 20+ wins which used to be an automatic qualifier for the NIT. My biggest beef is Iowa, Wyoming should've gotten a bid over them I would've thought.

Each of those teams except Bucknell all won their conference in the regular season without winning their conference tournament. That automatically qualified them for the NIT.

Those teams might have won their conference, but that doesn't mean they don't suck.(at least according to the RPI)

The fact the Pokes didn't get into this tournament makes absolutely no sense! The Pokes beat Utah Valley State 2 times this season and they got a bid to the CIT. I'm starting to wonder if the Pokes maybe got an invite and declined it, but I can't imagine them doing that.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, that's just the way the NIT has been set up now.

I'm not saying Wyoming doesn't deserve to be in I am just saying reasons why maybe they didn't get selected. Iowa will always get the benefit over Wyoming in most cases because the Big Ten is rated as the toughest or 2nd toughest conference in the country. I think Wyoming got screwed as well but just trying to figure out a reason why the NIT comittee decided to pass on them.

Iowa was actually 17-16 so they did have a winning record.

The RPI people say the Poke's record is 18-11, presumably not counting victories over two piss-ant teams. Still the RPI is 83.

this sucks I was looking foward to a trip to MSG in NYC...lol.....lets hope we get some support at home so we can get a few more games in Laramie, I'll be there!!!

I may be wrong on this, but I read that espn took over the running of the NIT Tournament. If this is true, that explains why no MWC team got invited to the NIT. espn hates the MWC for shunning them for the last tv contract.

Just for the record...the CIT is for Mid-Major schools...look at the teams in the Tourney- would you want to be in that tourney? Now look at the CBI(which Wyoming is in) and there are teams like Oregon State and Washington State- much better tournament to be in in my opinion. :twocents:
