NFL Signings

Isaiah Neyor signs as UDFA with 49ers. Have to believe he would have been drafted had he stayed at Wyoming.

John Hoyland gets mini-camp invites with the Ravens and Broncos.

Connor Shay mini-camp invite with the Packers.

Not a lot of NFL shots this year. I believe Bertagnole hung up his cleats.

Harrison Waylee to UVA is a surprise. He must enjoy losing because UVA is the 5th best team in the Commonwealth behind:

VT
JMU
ODU
Liberty

Hell Norfolk State with Mike Vick might be better at this point also

How many MWC players were drafted this year?
6. Ironically it was the most since 2022. But regardless, since the transfer portal and NIL has taken shape, the MWC has become mostly an afterthought.

Ohio State had 14 players drafted, including 4 in the first round. Georgia had 13 and Texas had 12.

We aren’t even on the same playing field and the faster the split the better.

Virginia had 5 wins last year and Wyoming had 3. Really?!?! Glass houses.

I’m sure he is getting a good NIL deal. But I personally wouldn’t mind him being buried on the depth chart at Virginia after the way he lied, played Sawvel like a fiddle and left Wyoming. And Waylee, while born in the Ivory Coast until he was 4, is from Iowa, so it isn’t like he is taking this opportunity to go home and be closer to family.

I think only 8 or 9 guys from fcs/g5 ranks in 1st 3 rounds. I'm not sure how that compares to other years?

I won't look it up, but seems like 2x or 3x MWC players were drafted not even 8 years ago.

According to AI - Looks like most recent years before portal were about 8. There were 11 selected in 2018 (3 first round) and 14 selected in 2020.

2005, 2009, 2014 - 16 each year
2006 and 2013- 12
2007 and 2008 - 7 each
2010, 2011 and 2013 - 10 each

Portal Years
2023 - 5 players
2024 - 2 players
2025 - 6 players

I've lived in the commonwealth for well over 15 years. I can tell you UVA was only the second best team in the state due to ODU (not even having a team) and JMU still FCS. 5 wins is normal for them outside of a random two year success with Bronco until they fired him. There is a good chance W&M (though have been down) beats them...again

Virginia is not exactly a football powerhouse, but this is kind of a weird take. Virginia has beaten William and Mary the last 6 times they have played and most of those games weren't even close. The overall record between the schools is 32-6-1 in Virginia's favor.

Did a little googling found Tom Wilkinson who is in the UW and CFL halls of Fame as a QB. Here I thought my UW fandom knowledge was fairly deep but Google had me beat.
I met Tom in Pullman a few years ago when the Pokes played Wazzu. Him and his family were sitting in the same bar I was before the game. Apparently they still live in Canada, but a driveable distance from Pullman.
