Next Seasons Roster

Hey all,

Just have a question regarding next years roster. Being in NY I don't get out to the AA to watch the games, and I am just curious regarding who exactly is redshirting, and how many years of eligibility they have. I know about the three freshman, just curious about who exactly we have coming in.

PErsonally, I think this years team is gonna make a run in the MWC tourney. Have to hope to land the 4 or 5 seed, get a first round matchup with the Wolfpack (avoid Boise hopefully) then a matchup with 1 seeded NM or SDSU.

As frusturating as many losses have been, the Pokes have proven that they can beat a team like NM on a given night. In conference tournaments sometimes it is best to lost to a team twice in the regular season, as it is VERY hard to beat a team 3 times.

I can't wait till the MWC tourney, I really think NM. Boise, UNLV, WYO and SDSU can all win it.

The players certainly have proved it. But Larry, who is a great coach and fine person, has not. He has one flaw he seriously needs to confront. That, of course, is his end-game strategy.

The biggest late game coaching blunder was at NM. Coach Shyatt was in Laramie.
Grabau looked around for Duncan to tell him what to do.

He should have had his head in the game and fouled the guy right away instead of wasting 20 seconds.

That can not be put on Larry Shyatt.

To answer your question:
Here are the redshirts

Alan Herndon 6'9 Fr
Jason McManemen 6'5 Soph
Keonta Vernon 6'5 Fr

We will bring back 4 starters as well, and of our 8 that play consistently 6 will return

We're only losing Jerron Granberry and Nathan Sobey. We'll be bringing in Jonathon Barnes (6'10" 250 lb. PF), Diontae Jones (6'6" 185 lb. SF), and Jeremy Lieberman (6'1" 175 lb. PG).

Look for Vernon and McManemen to have an impact coming off of their redshirt season, as well as junior-to-be Austin Halderson.

there comes a time we have to grow up and win these more than the proverbial "moral victory" on the road, once we learn that we'll stay mediocre...sorry

We are in DEEP SHIT if we have to rely on Austin. Maybe he will develop over the next 9 months, but as of now...

10 game - appearances, 0 Points, 4 Fouls, 3 Turnovers, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist.

I think on of the Keys on next years roster will be rebounding. If Vernon, Herndon, Jones and Barnes come in ready to play we will have much more depth in the front court, espcially with Nance, and a constantly improving Cooke. Hopefully, Liberman can stroke the three, as losing Granberry and Sobey mean losing a solid shooter, and a solid creator.

By the way it looks, next years squad will be physical, have depth, and a ton of experience.

I believe, Wyoming can make a serious run at the MWC tournament title this year. Hopefully, we take down the aztecs at the AA, and are able to stay hot down the stretch. Really need to nab that 4 or 5 seed, dont want to drop to the 6 or 7.

I am with Beaver on this. I feel like this team is a few big plays away from being great. HOPEFULLY we dont drop any games to teams we should beat. I think this could be one of the more exciting MWC tourneys in recent memory. The conference is semi Down this year, and whoever draws USU in the quarterfinals will have a BATTLE. something tells me the Aggies with a senior laden lineup are going to make a run and pull off an upset or two in the conference toruney.

Thanks for the info about next years roster. From the looks of it, these new guys can have a real solid impact. Couple that with the experience of NAnce, Adams and Grabau plying together for 3 years we could be dangerous. Cooke will only get better as well.

Two tough losses this week, but there IS absolutley reason to think that the season, and the PROGRAM are heading in the right direction. As I mentioned, I may be bold, but I think we will be playing Saturday night for the MWC crown. Dont know if we will pull it out, but something tells me we will be there!

GO POKES!

He definitely needs a lot of development. I'm sure the coaching staff is as disappointed as we are about his lack of contribution thus far. I'm still scratching my head as to why he wasn't redshirted this season.

Don't be shocked if Herndon makes an impact. He is taller than nance

Is it just me or has he grown since the start of the season? When I see him stand up in huddles during timeouts, etc. he looks like the tallest guy on the team. It wouldn't surprise me if he is listed at 6'10" next year.

Still, from what I have seen he is pretty raw. I don't expect a lot out of him next year, but I am higher on him than I was coming out of HS. Definitely a late bloomer.

Next year's roster:

Seniors:

Nance
Cooke
Grabau
Hankerson
Sellers
Bentz (Walk-On)

Juniors:

Adams
Haldorson
Tyser (Walk-On)

Sophomores:

Washington
McManamen (RSo.)

Freshman:

Vernon (RFr.)
Herndon (RFr.)
Lieberman
Barnes
Jones

That's 16 players, 14 scholarship players. At least one player with eligibility will not be back next year.

Rotation, IMO:

Starters:

Grabau
Adams
Hankerson
Cooke
Nance

Bench:

Washington
TBD - Wing
TBD - Post Player

Who can step and give us another scoring option on the wing and who can step in and give us another option in the post?

We've got some great length on the bench. Haldorson needs some weight, but he's one of the best shooters on the team and he's 6'7". If we can get some bulk on him, the MWC will have a euro SF to deal with.

Herndon does seem to be getting taller. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought he looks like the tallest guy on the team. He's really athletic. Give him a couple of years in the pipeline and a post with him and Johnathan Barnes will be able to match up with anybody.

I love Diontae Jones. I think he's a real steal at SF. Finding a guy that already loves to do the things the Shyatt requires you to do, and can do them really well, is going to be huge for the program. He's fills in the need for a true wing defender. He'll be extremely valuable when he gets up to game speed.

We have to remember the hand that Shyatt was dealt. Schroyer loaded up his recruiting classes trying to get a job at a bigger program. When that didn't work, Shyatt had to recruit 10 players within the first year on the job. No matter who you are, you're going to end up with some projects.

We'll see what Shyatt is capable of over the next couple of seasons. He'll have a lot of new facilities to recruit to and his classes are balanced out a bit. He's rid himself of the chemistry turds that Schroyer recruited. Although the team is missing some pieces, his system is in place and it's an attractive brand of basketball.

I expect us to challenge for a league title next year. I think the attendance is really going to improve next season. That should help get more people on board and boost attendance.

Shyatt is a builder and what he is trying to accomplish isn't going to happen overnight, especially when he had to recruit 10 guys within his first year on the job. Have patience with him. Success is coming. Even in a rebuilding year, like this year or the last two years, the team wins 20 games and is a pleasure to watch. I'll take that. Give me a 20 game winner every year, without the off court problems, playing basketball that I can be proud of, and I will be patient for the year when we win the MWC.

Larry will be the stud down low, Riley and Josh on the guards, and Hank and Keonta Vernon hopefully that's what I'd like to see

Very true. Not even close. Highly, highly doubt it.

Well, I'll take Shyatt's opinion and my opinion over your opinion 9 times out of 10 and twice on Tuesday(no offense). Shyatt said he has the most potential out of any of his recruits in the same class with Josh Adams. I've watched him practice and he can shoot it. It's my opinion he's one of the best outside shooters on the team. When I've watched him practice only Riley and Granberry we're hitting more shots then him.

Yes, right now he's a defensive liability because he's skinny. I still think people will be eating their words about Haldorson as soon as he gains some weight. He's a gifted athlete.

The problem is in my eyes,

How many guys develop into big-time or even serviceable players after not being that for 2 plus years already? If a guy is going to be able to play at this level, usually you will see glimpses of that in games by the end of their sophomore year or at least trust him enough to play him for 4 minutes in the first half. I can't recall too many players who were absolute non-factors their first two years on campus who ended up developing into quality D1 players their last 2 years. I hope I am wrong. Next season is only 8 months away, how much will change between now and then?
