New to UWyo

Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I will be attending graduate school at Wyoming beginning in the fall. I'm currently at Old Dominion (CAA) and as such I'm a big basketball fan. I haven't followed the MWC much in the past. What can I expect athletics-wise next season? Also, out east there is big talk about the CUSA-MWC merger. Is that actually happening? Thanks for the insight. Just trying to get caught up!

For MWC sports, football wise, next year is pretty much a complete mystery. Basketball wise, this year our RPI was ranked 5th. 5 teams with 20 or more wins.

For the merger, it looks like it's full steam ahead, so far as we can tell. Outside of that, only those that need to know, know more than that. And those people are the school presidents and conference commissioners.

Yeah, what he said.

Didn't Wyoming inquire about hiring Old Dominion's head coach last year?

Yes, actually. According to the local papers, the wyoming AD and pres flew out to interview Blaine Taylor. I think they just wanted him for his mustache  . I'm not sure how serious the interest was on BT's part though. He tends to look around in the off-season as a way to bolster his negotiations on the home front. Anyway, looks like you guys landed a pretty good coach anyway. I saw the game against UNLV and I was pretty impressed. Any hope for an NIT bid?

As for football, why is 2012 a mystery? Is the team just young, or inconsistent? Or is it the that league is in flux, with TCU and Boise State leaving plus the apparent CUSA merger?

Either way, that 7220 advantage is certainly for real. I was flown out for a visit a few weeks back and was completely worthless for the first day and a half while my body adjusted. It's gonna make moving interesting!

We lose some key players on defense who caused turnovers/led the team but return most on offense (more specifically, Freshmen All-American Brett-Smith), BSU, who is normally solid (and the only remaining in-conference team that beat us last year) loses nearly their entire starting line-up on both sides. SDSU lost their "star" QB and stud RB (who was the one that actually kept them in games offensively), CSU and UNM both have new staffs with some talent on their rosters and both HCs have come from successful jobs prior, Air Force is usually middle of the pack/solid team every year, but lose some key players like their stud QB and wingback, and UNLV is well, UNLV (they can knock you off, but rarely are bowl eligible).

BTW, BSU and SDSU are here for at least 1 more year.

Welcome, Monarch! I know a few ODU fans from the championshipsubdivision.com board.. you guys have a nice football program coming along!
