New Pope

First Latin American Pope, first Jesuit Pope. Saint Francis was known for his work with the poor, which is this Pope's focus. Good move getting a Latin American Pope elected, seeing as how 42% of all new Catholics come from Latin America.
 
Though with all of the talk, you would have thought they would have gone with a younger pope (below 70) rather than one who is almost 80.
 
Agreed. I thought it kind of strange as well, but maybe there just wasn't someone they felt comfortable enough with that was younger.

You would think that would have been a priority for the last, oh, 15 years or so...
 
I watched & cried. I love the tradition of it. He's probably not going to take the Church in the direction I would like, but I love that he chose the name Francis. As a social worker & animal lover, he has always been my favorite :)
 
As an historian, I thought the traditions of how they elect a pope was interesting.

In all honestly, I seriously doubt he'll clean up the mess of the rapes by the clergy. I don't think he'll last more than 10 years.
 
Yeah, who cares. Means nothing more than he's probably a good "yes sir" guy that will fold to churches bureaucracy.
