Need 2 wins in 5 games

What do you think?

None of these games are gimmes, unfortunately - I would have liked the games that are at home are on the road, and vice-versa. The more winnable games are on the road, where Wyoming is not as good a team and the tough games are in Laramie.

@ Utah - Wyoming has to get over their issue of playing in SLC. That's the biggest issue. Utah is good, but they have been winning games because the other team has made mistakes and Utah has made them pay.

vs. BYU - Wyoming MUST get pressure on the quarterback and protect ACS. That's the game.

@ SDSU - The Aztecs are one-dimensional offensively, which is great for the Pokes - except that one dimension - down the field passing - is really good and the Pokes have had trouble against vertical passing. The whole playing like crap in San Diego issue is a problem, too.

vs. TCU - hrmm.

vs. CSU - Amazingly enough, right now this looks like the most winnable game. The vertical passing game once again gives me concern. The Rams are playing their worst right now - will they have their ship settled by the end of the season?

Two big keys -
1. Offensive line
2. Keep improving

The offensive line play is obvious. I'm not asking for the parting of the red sea, just give ACS 4 seconds.

As for improvement, the Pokes have had up and down games, but I think for the most part they've gotten better (think 2 steps forward, 1 back). If Wyoming plays better every game, starting with Utah, I think Wyoming will get the two wins -

Good post. I just want us to keep it respectable in Utah. That would be great progress. I'm tired of losing games 50-0 in the state of Utah vs. either the Utes or BYU.

Right now the most winnable games in order are.

1.CSU
2.SDSU
3.BYU

Obviously if we get 2 wins I think it has to come from those 3. But its still going to be very tough for this team to put together 2 good games on the road, especially if we are on a 3 game losing streak coming into SDSU. Thats why I think BYU is a big one.

I see on the MWC board that all the Utards have already chalked this game up as a W. They think history is going to win this game for them. This Wyoming team does not have to bow down to Utah. Our D is right there with the Utes - we just need some help from our O. I think DC & staff will have the Pokes ready for this game - forget what has happened in the past. One game at a time!

My picks for the order of most-to-least winnable. In EVERY game
the oddsmakers will favor the Pokes opponemt.

CSU
TCU (yes, TCU)
SDSU
Utah
BYU

Like everybody's already mentioned - most of the winnable games will hang on our secondary. If they tighten up the way they did against UNLV and New Mexico in the second half of those games, then we could take both CSU and SDSU, and possibly even BYU.

CSU has shown that they like to fall apart in the second half, at least... their defense can't stop anything, and they start turning over the ball... as long as Wyoming can stay in that game for the first two quarters, it should be fine.

SDSU has me a bit worried - they look better and better every week, and they beat CSU pretty much without their best receiver. They've started being a little bit successful with the run, but that's obviously not what Wyoming needs to worry about.

Pressure Max Hall, and BYU is very beatable. I really think we can take the BYU game, although it's also entirely possible that they blow us out if they get on track from the start.

If we get blown out against Utah its going to get real tough. Then BYU might blow us out too. If we can hang with them and play a tough game, I think we have a decent enough chance to knock them off.

They do get a bye week before their trip to Laramie though.

a team getting a bye week before us isnt so bad in all aspects they will be well rested and prepared but maybe a little rusty?

While I don't think we will beat Utah. I do think we will be very competitive. This Utah team is nowhere near as good as last year. I dont think Terrence Cain is a bad QB, but not even close to Brian Johnson.

In Order for winnable

I think we get it done but our secondary has got to buckle down

That's the order I would put them in, and I agree we will probably be the underdogs in everygame. I am excited for this weekend, we played AFA close and they played Utah close so I think we have a chance. It will be a big measuring stick game, if we win or are competitive, I like our chances to end up bowl eligible. If not, I think the Glenn boo-birds will start squawking again.

I really don't think Air Force can be used as a measuring stick at all. Our defense stacks up very well against them since we're good against the run and semi-decent against the pass. Utah doesn't have the same type of run defense that we do and have always had a hard time against Air Force... didn't they lose to Air Force 12-20 the year they blew us out 50-0? I'm pretty sure that's how it turned out. That the game is in SLC doesn't exactly help us out either. If we can keep that game within two touchdowns, we show that we can beat BYU, SDSU, and CSU... if we get blown out, I'm afraid the young guys will lose a lot of confidence in themselves, and that could have pretty bad consequences.

I honestly think we're way more likely to beat BYU, mostly because they're far more prone to mistakes this year, and our team has been relatively good at capitalizing on turnovers. Keep the old men on their heels with the spread, and hit them hard when it counts.

It is tough to rack & stack the future opponents like this. The games are played for a reason, and on any given Saturday, we can beat anyone in the nation.

I would say our "best shot" scenario is this though:

1. CSewe
2. SDSU
3. bWHYu
4. Utards
5. TCU

You gotta like the chance to upset what will more than likely be an undefeated and top 5 TCU team. Traveling to the mountains, on 11/21, in what I hope is a windy, snowy, nasty game...

We should all hope for a blizzard when TCU comes to Laramie in late November. Not only would that shock the hell out of those Texas boys, but would neutralize their speed somewhat. C'mon Mother Nature, throw us a bone.

The one thing I am REALLY hoping for is 400+ yards passing and 100+ yards running from ACS with no turnovers vs the lambs in a total blowout. They really have that coming after taunting his Air Force performance...

AFA is gonna kill CSewe.

We beat them the last time they visited Laramie, and there was no snow that day. How about we just kick their asses for the sake of kicking their asses.

Go Pokes!!

Nothing is easy about these last 5 games.

SDSU looked like a sure thing until this weekend. Anything can happen when you're playing for the Bronze Boot.

I would love to steal one on the road in Utah this weekend. 2 weeks to prepare and Utah had to do everything possible to win last weekend over the Falcons. Hopefully we catch them off guard.

That time we were able to run them to pieces. This year's team is a LOT better than that one (which by no means was bad). Then again, our team is a completely different beast as well, and let's be honest, our kids would love nothing more than pulling an upset over a potential top 5 team.

Two years prior, TCU broke our quarterback who had previously looked like a star in the making. It was easily the most awful game I've been at. 4 interceptions and 3 fumbles, ALL by Bramlet - including a fumble in their end zone, and one that was run back for a TD). The 4-1 start (only loss was to Gators in Florida) included annihilating Louisiana-Monroe, narrowly beating Air Force, and handily putting away Ole Miss in their stadium. TCU completely broke that team, and we looked like junk each following week, losing 6 straight.

I won't chalk anything up as a W this season. We've been really lucky our Defense has covered our asses on Offense. I think it's going to be a close game, I don't think it's going to be another 50-0 game.
