LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Wyoming’s War Memorial Stadium claims to be the highest stadium in feet above sea level in college football.

Everywhere you look, it says 7,220 to remind everyone how high up things are at the home of the Cowboys.

On Saturday afternoon, no one was riding higher than the UND football team.

UND true freshman John Santiago ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns in his first college game to give North Dakota a 24-13 victory over Wyoming in front of 23,669 fans.

The win, coming against former North Dakota State coach Craig Bohl, was UND’s first victory against an FBS opponent in eight tries.

“I’m proud of our guys, but I’m not going to make this game bigger than it is,” UND coach Bubba Schweigert said. “It was a nice step for our program, but we haven’t accomplished anything this season other than winning a big game on the road. We can really enjoy this, but we have to keep it in the proper perspective.”
