NCAA approves Big XII waiver for Championship game

The NCAA approved a waiver allowing the Big XII to be able to have a championship game (if they want) without having to have 12 league members. Only stipulation is that they have a full round-robin schedule in the regular season.

NCAA oks Big XII Championship

Doesn't mean much to us, but it does mean they don't have to expand just to get 12 members for a title game. Ha, suck it byu and delusional csu!

Yup, that pretty much pistol whips any chances of expansion in the coming years.
Does this make it possible for other conferences to trim some fat and exclude themselves even more? The MWC should drop SJSU and Hawaii as soon as possible and play a 9 game conference schedule. SEC could drop 2 of Missouri, Vanderbilt, or Kentucky. Pac-12 could drop Colorado, Oregon State, or Washington State. Big 10 has a bunch of teams they could drop.

We must drop San Joser asap

At this point, I'm not sure it really matters. The rpi hit from SJSU is probably the worst part. Hard to complain about SJSU when we are scheduling (and losing to) FCS schools.

As this landscape changes, I'm not so sure that it wouldn't be better to split into the Mountain and West division (though I doubt BSU would go for it); 8 teams each division; round-robin scheduling; cross-division games count as out of conference; both divisions operate independently. Champs play. For Bball, our top x teams qualify and receive byes. Other teams have to play in. It would be one massive tournament and we could use the MGM or something early in the week (before the PAC starts) to get the games played.

Our division:
WYO
CSU
AF
USU
BSU
UNM
UTEP
UTSA

Something like that anyway. For bball, we could run it like an 8 team league with a few cross-divisional challenges (guaranteed every year).

All in all, I just don't think conference composition is going to make that big of difference for us now (of the realistic options--obviously we don't want to go, Idaho, WYO, NMSU, etc.)

The NCAA should not have allowed this. They ought to make the B12 add 2 schools to reach 12 total.

I agree but....nothing the NCAA does surprises me.

Exactly. This is another reason to punt on the biggest mistake our administration has ever made. Send Ha va ee ee and San Jose back where they belong and return to a round robin schedule in football and basketball. Hawaii doesn't share in conference revenue. They keep their own PPV contract. I doubt it would void the contract to lose Hoser, so we would be splitting the same money with less teams.

This looks so much nicer.

UNLV
Nevada
SDSU
Fresno
USU
Boise
AFA
CSU
Wyo
UNM

That leaves us room to expand with good teams when the opportunity rises. If Wichita adds football or if BYU decides to return from the wilderness(fuck them either way, and I'm not sure if I would want them back). The best teams for expansion are east of us. Utep, Wichita, Houston.....San Jose takes a seat that could be filled by someone that contributes and can afford to turn the heat on in their basketball arena.

Someone in Laramie needs to take the lead on this. Fix the mistake. Boot Hoser and Hawaii.

Yeah, the NCAA gave the Big 12, one of the big money makers of football and other sports, a waiver. What makes anyone think they would do the same with a 10 team MWC that already had a title game with 12 teams?
