Nance getting some Sportsnation love

Anybody who watched Sportsnation today may have saw Nance's dunk was #7 of 68 "Have somes" of the college basketball season. Gave his dad some love also as they always do. I love seeing countdowns with the Pokes in them. Keep it up :)
 
I can't believe Michigan didn't offer him a scholarship. The kid is good, and he has only been getting better with each game. He's going to be REAL good over the next few years.
 
Is it just me or has Nance really started to look a lot like (Josh Davis)? He's starting to get comfortable from a distance and can hit those long shots and his athletic ability matches Davis to a "T". He just needs to bulk up a little.
 
No one had the ability to make a student section go "ohhh shiiiiit" quite like Davis did when he'd pull up for 3.
 
watched them all and was truly proud he made it in the top 10, got really annoyed with those kids in the back ground oooh ahhh oooooo....his dunk was truly worthy of top 10, again it was way more impressive in person watching it, but you can't replay that in your mind like the highlights can...lol

It's just you...

From an athletic standpoint, Josh Davis was quicker and MUCH stronger.

Nance had a nice freshman year but he still has a lot of room for improvement. He needs to develop a reliable offensive game and do a lot of squats.

Hey kansas, I believe the other folks are being sarcastic, but it isn't just you. Maybe it's because he also wears #22, but I noticed that in one of the first games I saw him play. My wife (who was a huge Davis fan while we were in school) even mentioned it a few weeks ago. He still makes some freshman mistakes and needs to get 20 or so pounds on that frame, but Nance has a huge upside. He'll be good over the next few years. Looking forward to that.

Very serious here. Nance plays a lot like Davis.
Freshman year number rundown. (Davis had more significant playing time than Nance has) But still very Idenical numbers.
Josh Davis (FR year):
FG: 93-198 (.470); 3-PT: 15-53 (.280); FT: 30-53 (.560); REB: 161; AST: 28; STL: 27; BLK: 24; PTS: 231

Larry Nance (FR year-has not finished):
FG: 48-105 (.457); 3-PT: 3-9 (.333); FT: 35-43 (.813); REB: 127; AST: 13; STL: 24; BLK: 20; PTS: 134

I can really see this kid having a better career than most of our BIGS, including Davis.

Josh Davis was much more productive as a freshman, even on a per minute basis. Josh only played 21.9 min/game as a frosh (Nance plays a little over 18), yet he averaged 8.6 ppg and 6.0 rpg (Nance is averaging 4 and 4). It's not totally a fair comparison because Josh played on a team with a much faster pace than this year's Poke squad so he saw more possessions.

There are two areas that Nance has a long ways to go to reach Davis. The first is in strength. If I recall correctly, Nance is pretty young for his class, so you can definitely see the possibility that he can really add muscle in the next couple of years which will help him tremendously. The second is being able to play off of contact and finish in the paint. Granted, strength plays a role there, but there is a lot of skill and feel involved and Davis had a knack for being able to finish. Davis' biggest problem is that he would occasionally forget that he was good in the post and would hang around the perimeter shooting 3's.

I think Larry can develop into a very solid player and may turn out to provide a steadier level of production than Davis, but when Davis was focused he played at a level that very few Pokes have in the last 25 years (watch the NCAA tournament run footage, he was a beast).
 
i thought Larry was very active last night and I'm really starting so see his basketball IQ shining thru, he took some shots under pressure last night and they went in....the sky's the limit with this exciting player, (no jinx) barring he stays healthy.....can't wait for the next game and esp next season!!! Love what Larry's doing and also Coach Shyatt, fun stuff
