Agree with almost everything hereLasCrucesPoke said:I just want to be clear on where I am at: we need a wholesale change in mantra in our athletic department, the kind that Doc is suggesting (we can at least agree on something) that is void of excuses and that has a vision for Wyoming athletics as not poor old Wyoming but as WYOMING, a proud university that expects championships and that gives coaches the resources to compete at the TOP of the conference. That being said, DC is a good offensive coach who has recruited two MWC Freshman QBs of the year and the best QB in school history. My glory days at WYO under Glenn were spent hoping to god we can get at least get a first down. I don't want to go back to that and there's not a chance on Earth DC looks at what Tormey is doing and is pleased. Bronco Medenhall has survived some bad coordinators. We cannot fire a coach every four or five years and expect good things. He has grown to like Wyoming quite a bit, and wants to be here. But we have to be proactive, coordinated, and supportive and we need to do some self examination and get this thing right. I'm worried if Burman has what it takes.
CJC is an extension of the AD's office and is basically subordinate to it.ZapPoke said:Doc, we should not have to. Here is a quote directly from the Athletics Department strategic plan:
"When its athletic teams achieve success on and off the field of play people from throughout the country draw positive perceptions of UW as a whole. These positive institutional images provide strong correlations to increased student applications, enhanced school spirit and state morale, a strengthened University reputation, increased alumni awareness, greater levels of private fundraising and increased legislative and governmental support"
We also have the Cowboy Joe Club already. I have to believe they are on the AD's ass to improve things and they already have the infrastructure that a new fan initiative would not.
So, between the University President and the CJC the AD should already be on the hotseat. I will say I agree with those who have said let's see how the season plays out. Maybe the Pokes will surprise us yet. The only good thing about last week's game is that my expectations are now so low that I won't be on the verge of bursting an artery if they play like shit again.
Most serious donors, especially the business donors, are somewhat loathe to straightforward threaten to withhold or to reduce their donations, as their overall commitment is to UW on the whole, with UW Athletics being the direct beneficiary. The businesses, especially, don't want to deal with possible negative publicity of ending or reducing their participation.ZapPoke said:CJC may be subordinate to the AD, but the donors have power. You know, money talks, bullshit walks.
