MWC Week 1 Recap

Wyoming is shocked at home by Boise, SDSU struggles with BOTH Fresno and Colorado State, UNLV needs OT to beat Air Force in Vegas. New Mexico has been solid, but their time to be humbled is coming.....Don't think I personally learned anything new this weekend. This is MWC Basketball. Upsets will be plentiful, and whoever finishes the regular season champ will have 5-6 conference losses IMO. Nobody except the teams that are 0-2 should panic. The grind begins......hopefully it leads to 5-6 MWC teams headed for the dance like so many predict.

Statistically speaking, the probability of a regular season conference champion having 6 conference losses is very very small. I think 4 losses for the regular season champ.

I think MAX 5 tournament teams, MIN 4 tournament teams.

Yeah I don't buy the whole 6 loss thing. I would go with 12-4 wins the MWC. It will be a dog fight but not everyone is even. Someone will step up, and play like a true champ.

And I think 1 loss teams should panic, they are already a game behind. We should panic. Not the fans, but the players better play with some urgency. Don't be thinking a 6 loss team will win it. They better be thinking a 1 loss team will win it.

My feeling is that the team should not be thinking about the MWC tourney or the NCAA tourney - they should be completely concentrating on the next game. Forget about all the streaks, rankings, and stats, and just focus on improving their weaknesses and depth.

Well, UNM will likely avoid this prediction.....but everyone following them? Just might have 6+ conference losses.

I guess only time will tell, but so far New Mexico has only played one conference road game @ Boise State and that was a struggle for them that they had to go to OT to get the win. They beat Vegas @ home, but still have to go there (1 loss), they have to go to SDSU (2 losses), to Wyoming (potential 3 losses), @ CSU (4 losses), and who knows what could happen with SDSU @ UNM, and Air Force could be a tough road game as well. They have CSU @ home on Wednesday then @ SDSU on Saturday and finally a trip to Laramie on the 30th. A lot of basektball left to be played, I'm excited to see how this season plays out, could be the best conference season yet.
