MWC Tourney: New Mexico vs. Wyoming

Well shyatt and his boys have some work to do. I love shyatt and know things are on the way up but damnit I'm tired if always rebuilding. I'm tired of moral victories. Here's to next year

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't care to see them play in the CBI. I would seriously give 10 years off my life just to see a Wyoming football team or basketball team be above average for a year or two. Rooting for this university is so damn hard.

I would rather see them play, and play their young guys- give them more time to play with each other and develop. You want to see one of our teams above average- that's how it begins, young talent playing as much as possible together to form chemistry. Those are the advantages of the CBI or CBT or whatever other tournaments are out there, try and make a run and end on a better note.

I don't want to see them in the CBI either as you have to pay to play in that tournament, save the money for the recruiting budget and go recruit some scorers

Plus you're paying for a game that, judging by past attendance numbers, nobody gives two shits about.

Wyoming is going to be in the NIT actually unless all of the bracketology is wrong. All of the NIT bracketology experts have Wyoming listed as a 5 or 6 seed in the NIT field which means they aren't even close to the being one of the last teams in. They are solidly in the NIT according to them. I know it sounds surprising but that's what everyone has so we will see if it's actually true or not. Guess that's what happens when you play in one of the top 3 or 4 leagues in the country.

Damn I had no idea. I don't see an NIT bid going well for us...

I think the NIT has left out some high(er) RPI teams in favor of lower PRI teams. I'm not sure how all this works (politics? possible game attendance?). But what will the Pokes RPI be after this game?

Ditto. Decent D and inept O doesn't bid well for anyone.

Actually a 6th seed would mean one of the last at-large teams in. Remember the NIT gives auto bids to regular season conf champions that lose in the conference tourney and don't make the NCAA. These are typically from low major conferences and they take up the 7 and 8 seeds. There are already a few and another one was added tonight when North Carolina-Central (one of our former opponents) lost after winning the regular season MEAC.

Wyoming's NIT chances are very slim, although a win tonight would have given us a decent shot. It is CBI now. Just have to decide if we want to buy a home game.

Yeah I knew they gave auto bids to conference regular season champions. I didn't realize a 6 seed was one of the last teams in. Good to know. Well maybe we won't make it then.

Are there that many conference champs that don't make the tourney after losing in their conference tourney? Seems like alot of criteria for there to be that many.

I am so fucking glad Gilmore is gone.

I will never miss him.

I don't get why the fuck he keeps the ball in last 5 seconds and runs every goddamn chance we could have.

I'm fine with CBI if Gilmore gets his minutes cut a lot. If we use it as a preseason game for next year by starting the guys that will be around, I'm cool with it. The boss should play too but not as much. It's the CBI, we should be looking towards next year.

Well, you have roughly 20 one-bid type leagues (varies a little by year). It's not that unusual for 8 of those (that's how many 7 and 8 seeds are available) to have different regular season and conference tournament champions.

Already this year, you have the following:

Northeastern (CAA)
Norfolk St. (MEAC - I was wrong earlier, I thought UNC-Central had won the league, but they went 15-1, while Norfolk went 16-0, but Norfolk lost as well in the conf. tourney)
Charleston Southern (Big South)
Niagara (MAAC)
Middle Tennessee (Sun Belt -Outside chance they receive a NCAA at-large and they would be a higher NIT seed anyway, so they might not really belong on this list)
Mercer (A-Sun)
Stony Brook (America East)
Robert Morris (Northeast)

So that is 7-8 (depending on where you consider MTSU) already that fit that description and there are at least 4 more conference tourneys that could add to that (Big West, Big Sky, SWAC, and Southland).

One site that does a pretty decent job with NIT predictions IMO is Big Apple Buckets and they have Wyoming as a NIT bubble team right now: http://nycbuckets.com/2013/03/nit-bracketology-mid-week-update/

Is it just me or does it seem like the Pokes go way too deep into the shot clock before they look for a quality shot? Four shot clock violations last night and many poor shots! They never pushed the ball one time that I was aware of!

This. Notice when Adams is running the point he KEEPS RUNNING THE OFFENSE! Every time Gilmore gets the ball he backs out and stands around until there are 10 seconds left on the clock. He then proceeds to either fumble the ball or heave up a half court prayer.

I honestly can't remember a worse PG in Laramie than Gilmore in the past 15 years. McFall, McMillan, Strait, Ewing, and Luster were all good to great, but Gilmore has proven to be awful this season. I feel like Adams will be able to run the point the way it should be next year, though. Thank God this is Gilmore's last season.
