I looked over the history of the MWC Tournament and came up with some stats.
From the year 2000 up until last year 2014.
Seeds winning the tournament number of times they each won it.
#1 won it 3 times
#2 won it 8 times
#3 won it 1 time
#4 won it 1 time been runner up 4 times. (Figured since Wyoming is #4 seed would mention it)
#5 won it 1 time
#6 won it 1 time
#7 won it 0 times
#8 won it 0 times
#9 won it 0 times
How seeds do in the first round
#1 seed is 14-1
#2 seed is 14-1
#3 seed is 7-8
#4 seed is 11-4
#5 seed is 4-11
#6 seed is 8-7
#7 seed is 1-14
#8 or #9 seed is 1-14
How seeds do in the semi finals
#1 seed 9-5
#2 seed 8-6
#3 seed 4-3
#4 seed 5-6
#5 seed 1-3
#6 seed 2-6
#7 seed 1-0
#8 or #9 seed 0-1
How seeds do in finals
#1 seed 3-6
#2 seed 8-0
#3 seed 1-3
#4 seed 1-4
#5 seed 1-0
#6 seed 1-1
#7 seed 0-1
#8 or #9 seed 0-0
So some interesting conclusions from above.
If you are a #1 or #2 seed you will win your first round game almost by default normally which is to be expected.
If you are the #3 seed you can expect to be upset more than any other top seed in the tournament as it gets beat almost half of the time.
The #4 seed does very well in the first round against the #5.
If you are a #1 seed and get to the semi finals you have a 64% chance of getting into the championship game. If you are a #2, #3 or #4 seed you have basically a 50/50 chance of getting into the championship game. Seeds #6 through #9 do not do very well at all in the semi finals as expected.
If you are a #2 seed and make it to the championship you can count yourself in the NCAA tournament practically as you are a perfect 8-0 in the championship game. The only other undefeated team in the championship is the #5 seed but have only played in it once. So the next question is if the #2 and the #5 square off in the finals who wins that barn burner?
As far as Wyoming being the #4 seed you have a decent chance of making the championship game as the #4 has been there the third most times (5 total) behind the #1 and #2 seed.
Yeah I was bored and decided to look up this stuff . Hey I am a sports junkie!
