The Mountain West Conference announced its 2010 preseason all-Conference football team today as selected by members of the media. TCU swept the individual awards with senior quarterback Andy Dalton being named Preseason MWC Offensive Player of the Year, junior linebacker Tank Carder selected as Defensive Player of the Year and senior punt/kick returner Jeremy Kerley tabbed Special Teams Player of the Year.

No way Alvester Alexander should have been on the pre-season all-conference team. He was 9th in rushing yards last year, and 7 of the 8 guys in front of him are returning this year. Let's face it...these pre-season all-conference teams are based entirely on the previous years performance.

David Tooley on the all-conference team? The dude had 7 catches for 115 yards last year. That's some receivers stats for a single game.

You do have an argument for David Leonard. Him not making it probably had a lot to do with our offense being ranked dead last and our pass game being ranked 8th in the conference last year. It's really too bad for him because he is a very good possession receiver who deserves the recognition.

Don't get me wrong here, I do believe both Alexander and Tooley showed some promise last season, and I think both have bright futures at UW. However, there is no way they did enough to warrant making a pre-season all-conference team. The good thing is that this isn't the all-conference team that really matters. I'd love nothing more than to see all 3 of these guys name of the all-conference team voted on AFTER the season.
