This is probbaly already a thread, so my apologies if it is. I couldnt find it.

This would be music to my ears.

The money isn't great.... yet. BUT the exposure will be nice and may help us attract top teams from the "America 12"

Sounds like a very good deal for the conference.

Breaking down the numbers, Wyoming could actually (and potentially likely) make LESS money under this deal than the previous deal. The "bonus payments" come out of the 18 million a year to the conference. IMO, a terrible deal for Wyoming and a bigger separation of the haves and have nots. (not a bad deal for Boise State though)

I don't think it is necessarily all about the money though at the moment. Just the opportunity to have that many games shown on ESPN in both of our sports will do a lot of good for our conference and its exposure. Recruits will now be able to see a number of Wyoming games on ESPN and that is huge for us. I know the money is not perfect but add this to the CBS deal and it is not a bad deal for the conference at this time. If the ratings and things are high and we have good games on there then ESPN will sign us for more money when the contract expires on demand.

The biggest thing that bothers me about this deal with ESPN is that ESPN does not like Wyoming and will go out of it's way to keep us from getting games televised or else put them in a time slot that no one will watch. Watch and see what happens.

In 2020. By then, with the current money distribution, the "Big 4" conferences will have such a separation from the rest. Think about this...UTAH will make MORE money than the ENTIRE Mountain West Conference in its televesion deal. Is Utah really worth more than the entire MWC combined???

I understand how markets work and that the MWC got about what it is currently worth on the open market. What the "America 12" doesn't have is an unequal sharing distribution. Sorry, but Wyoming will not even be in the top 5 teams in the conferences for national broadcasts during the life of this deal and we will make significantly less than the Boise State, Fresno State and San Diego States.

Unless we are at the top of the conference or playing Boise State, we won't sniff ESPN. Or worse, we will be playing weeknight games.

Expect this (late ones too).

On a positive note, maybe we can get SVP and Ryen Rusillo to come do a broadcast in Laramie. I have a feeling they would be all for it.

I thought CBS had the rights to the Tier 1 piece... so is this a combination of ESPN/CBS on this contract or just ESPN. Is this a Tier1 or Tier2 contract?

I don't think we really know yet but if I would guess it is Tier 1 or Tier 1 and part of Tier 2. I think there is another network that will take some Tier 2 games.

Thats what I'm thinking as well... I think we have some tier2 options still left for someone to grab. I thought CBS had first rights to all the games and then left over content is up for grab. Still would be nice to see Local cable Root to be able to grab the tier3 next years and for the remainder of the 7 year deal..

CBS has first rights to something like 12-15 games, the rest are up for grabs.

I don't see how this is a negative in any way. CBS still owns the top tier, I believe. Therefore they will pick the top games and ESPN will have its pick of the rest. This should allow Wyoming to get on TV much more. Also, Root sports will likely grab third tier rights.

Wyoming should have every game televised under this new deal. At the end of the day, if we win like we are supposed to, we will be put on TV.

It will be good to see the Cowboys back on national TV once in awhile!

Bring back themtn!!!

This deal sucks. We were making 1.2 M per year with themtn and now it will be 1.5 M when all the other conferences are seeing way more than that. Boise is going to get all their games on "the mothership" so they take from that 1.5 M that each team gets so we get maybe the same amount of money.

We will be playing Wed night at 8:30pm kickoff and maybe get one "mothership" game a year if we are lucky and it will be a road game. Did you see how many CBS Sports games we were on last year? One and we were picked to finish much better than we did. Unless we are winning the conference we will not sniff the big tv channels and will have to rely on Root or some other regional programming.

Welcome back to basketball tip off at 10pm mtn time. Again how many games were we on CBS Sports this year? And how many of those were home games?

Bring back themtn!

For those of you saying we will never even sniff espn if we aren't good...that is how it should be. We weren't ESPN worthy last season.

If we are playing CSU for a chance to host or go to the MWC championship game, you can guarantee that we will be on ESPN.
If we are playing csu for a chance to go 4-8 like last season...then no way we deserve it.

Haha, there's no group of ESPN execs having a meeting and saying "We need to keep Wyoming off the television."

They simply don't give two shits about Wyoming. To be honest, why would they? They aren't going to go out of their way to keep us out, but they won't go out of their way to get us in.
