MWC Basketball

Today San Diego St. lost at home to Arkansas LIttle Rock.

Arkansas LIttle Rock has had some good teams in the past but the fact the Aztecs lost at home to them shows that they are way down this year , at least at this point in the season compared to other seasons.

I watched CSU beat Northern Iowa about a week ago when they played and CSU has some good big men and they are athletic. Northern Iowa knocked off N. Carolina today at home. The Tarheels were missing their starting guard but it was still a good win for N. Iowa and a big boost to CSU's rpi.

From watching most of the teams I think UNLV is the most talented and my pick to win the MWC this year even with their head coach but I think Boise St. will be right there and the surprise team as much as I hate to say it will be CSU. Fresno will be tough as well. Looking like overall the conference won't be quite as tough if the Aztecs don't play up to potential. I actually thought before the year that the conference would be a lot better overall this year but not looking that way as of yet. Still a long way to go though.

Not sure yet where Wyoming fits in as of yet.

UNLV win the conference? They may have the talent (for now), but Rice is on par or worse than Schroyer. If they finish top 3 in the regular season, I'll be surprised.

Yeah UNLV may have a horrible coach but think their talent this year over shadows it. They are that talented.

Weird things happen early in the season. Can't conclude much

Agree weird things happen but none of the Aztec teams the last few years would have dropped a game at home to Arkansas LIttle Rock. Aztecs can still be a good team of course but you don't usually see them lose home games like that.

So far based off of my limited eye tests, history, and score lines I think the MWC is gonna shake down like this. It's looking like the top 4 are gonna be UNLV, Fresno, CSU, and well that 4th slot just seems wide open to me. New Mexico lost one of their guys in tragic incident so I'm not sure how they are gonna play out. They're always tough and are so established these days that a down year for them is at least top 6 seemingly. As painful as it is to say CSU looked good when I watched them. They took it to UNI at their house, the same UNI that just bumped off the number one team in the nation. The Pokes are gonna have to shoot lights out to hold with them because they are big, physical, athletic guys that drive and play with aggression. CSU didn't look like world beaters shooting but if they just paste people on the boards and driving...well those types of teams usually win. UNLV is just pure power players with a cardboard cutout coach, but they look like they can out talent their way into the dance. Fresno has been a tough out for years, they play D, and I think they have been building a project that comes to fruition this season.

Everyone else is in the grey right now for me. I thought SDSU would be top 4 for sure but they are having some struggles. Can't tell what Boise is like yet either. It's so wide open that we could even finish in the top 6 with our rebuilding team. That would be great! I'm gonna hold that thought and hope........ :coffee:

The Rams beat up on UNI pretty badly but yesterday UNI knocked off #1 North Carolina thank god for Basketball season!
