MWC....answers

The MWC conference needs some changes.
1.New leadership at the top....Thompson needs to go.
2.Move the MWC from Colorado Springs to downtown Denver where all the movers and shakers are eg. media, travel, hotels
3. Say aloha to Hawaii and get a team that can play football and basketball schedules/tournaments. I do not care who, just get somebody say New Mexico State, UTEP, Texas State, or Rice.
4. With 12 teams, a basketball tourney is a snap, top 4 teams get a first round bye, bottom 8 teams play. Winners get the 4 top teams.
5. If Las Vegas is behind the reduced number of teams at the MWC tourney, consider moving it to Denver. Denver has many more hotels and more things to do. Gambling in BlackHawk is only a short shuttle bus ride.
I think the MWC could get reduced hotel rates for teams in Denver just like Las Vegas.
6. The MWC needs to promote the league via newspapers in every state eg. buy a 4x4 inch ad weekly, then maybe those newspapers would publish weekly stats, players of the week etc.

Agree on all points. However, I will add the MWC had the tourney in Denver (during the Schroyer years) and we were about the only fan base to show up. I agree that Denver would be a great location, but fans won't travel to Denver unfortunately.

alternate the tourney between LV, Denver, ABQ, and SLC, and maybe San Francisco, that way all fanbases will be covered with close approximities to those sites, i know it can never go back to the actual cities where the Universities are, but I'd travel to somewhere like this

LV - for Unlv and us all to be stupid for weekend
Denver- for UW, CSU, AFA
ABQ for New Mexico
SLC for Utah State and Boise St, Nevada
San Francisco for Fresno St, SJSU and San Diego St

just a thought

This seems like the most realistic proposal. Except fuck Albuquerque.

This, but have it in LV every other year and rotate the other years.

I like the rotational idea - I would go with:

Las Vegas
Denver
San Diego
Reno

In fact, Reno would be a great change from Las Vegas alone.

Big Sky basketball tournament is now in Reno.

The tourney isn't leaving vegas. We tried it and it was a failure. I am ok with that. Its a great destination for it. Just need to stop with the only 8 teams going to the tourney starting next year. That's a bad decision.

Good points, except for one: never move the tournament from Vegas.

That's where the most fans can reasonably go and want to go.

This begs the question.. how many of you degenerates spend your time gambling/drinking and not watching basketball while in Vegas for the tournament? Answer that question and you'll see why it's never leaving Vegas. Hard to be a degenerate in Denver, SLC, etc.

Not sure how many of you have been to Vegas lately...there is some very clear writing on the wall, Vegas is not what it used to be, even 5 years ago. Things are rapidly changing. While commercial real estate continues to go through the roof - guess who is going to pay the tab!?

Unless you are a Four Seasons, Delano, Bellagio, Encore / Wynn, etc. type - and have the dough to make that happen...every hotel room has been rode hard and put away filthy in that city. LA has ruined Las Vegas - to a great extent. And that is just the beginning. Vegas isn't cheap anymore...it is far from being the bargain vacation spot it used to be. The town itself is disgustingly dirty, and the overwhelming amount crime has crept its way right into every nook & cranny of LV Blvd.

Up next - in case you want to know? And the locals are fuming about it - parking will soon be charged for - starting at the MGM properties, and get this, no more free drinks when gambling is right around the corner. Not sure about you all - but paying $12.00 for a Sam Adams (Sierra Nevada, Stella, etc.) is a fucking joke.

My opinion - and people call me crazy - but when the politicians and junk-bond pioneers pushed the Mob out 25 years ago, that was the worst thing they could have ever let happen to that city. And it is starting to show it.

I'm not answering that.

It feels like a trap.

Why the hate on Hawaii at least for keeping them for football? I don't really see how it makes scheduling that difficult when we might play them once every 4 years. I would agree with the other sports for the scheduling puropses; but for a 12-13 game schedule it's not a huge issue.

They do have a football history with the WAC/MWC. Good fanbase and a destination away game.

You and I have discussed this at length a couple of times, and I'm in agreement. There is nothing "free" about Vegas.. and really, nothing even cheap about Vegas. Even downtown is a fairly pricey endeavor nowadays.

However, as long as there's assholes like you and I in this world, we'll keep the wheels turnin' in Vegas.

You are 100% correct on that my friend! Hell, call me a hypocrite, I have been down once this year already, and have 3 more trips planned (2 paid for). So although my opinion has changed about it - I am still a tourist frequenting LV! Of course, I won't stay anywhere than the aforementioned properties anymore...regardless. And we will see what the future holds.

BTW - you headed down for the first week of the NCAA's again? We are.

Damnit, really?? We're going to Nashville for CMA Country Fest this year instead of Vegas.

Ouch! Have heard Nashville is a great spot to hang out these days though...do a booze wagon if you can!

We had such a great time last year - found a great spot to watch UW - and had a lot of people around us rooting for the Pokes as such. Made some ridiculous bets, and cashed enough to kiss the sister.
