Morris Marshall

I don't know if any of us are in a position to question who our coaches go after and recruit. They have proven that they can find diamonds in the rough. It is worth noting that he was a 3 star out of high school. Our coaches know what they are looking for and what they need. They have proven that

I agree with this. They don't always go after the highest ranked players, they look deeper into the young man - his character and family and whether he is a team player or not.

Here's a snippet of Lacock's interview:

"The coaches at Wyoming have known us for years and (Wyoming assistant coach) Allen Edwards was here in September and we told him about Morris," Mowry said. "Then they got the commitment from Eric Turner, but Edwards watched Morris again. After Turner decommitted, they came back a week ago Thursday to see him again and Morris had a great practice. I bet between our shooting drills and our five-on-five he hit 80 percent of his shots."

He must have been totally blown away to decide to sign now instead of waiting until the end of the year like he was expected to do.

While I can't be upset that we have a new member of the cowboy family, I thought this scholarship would have best gone to a 5th year senior transfer type player or left open. That way we'd have more than just one scholly available next year since Adams will be the only guy leaving.

Santa Fe College guard Morris Marshall signs with Wyoming

Larry Shyatt's signing class for 2015 just got a little bit larger.

Morris Marshall -- a 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard who plays for Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida -- signed a national letter of intent with Wyoming on Wednesday.

“Both of Morris’ coaches Chris [Mowry] and Carlos [Villalobos] are longtime friends, so I have the utmost respect for the coaching and mentoring that Morris has received over the last year,” Wyoming head coach Larry Shyatt said in a statement. “Morris is a young man who was an NCAA qualifier out of high school, but decided to take advantage of two years at a junior college to grow and develop.”

UW assistant coach Allen Edwards on Marshall: "Morris has a really good basketball IQ. He knows the game and will add to our ability to make shots on the perimeter. On the other end, he can defend multiple positions. Being a junior college player, he will bring more maturity and help balance out our classes when we lose six seniors to graduation."
