I agree...
What the hell just happened ? :-?
UW is a doormat ? :(
UNLV hasnt had a winning season in 13 years and now UNLV goes bowling?
..................................and only now that he's actually proven himself-Hauk gets a contract extension???

What the Hell boys? Did I drink one too many? How did this old world skip off the damn rails???

Moral of the story for me?
No surprise-lack of vision and leadership starting with Burman :nutkick:

Hauk makes 525K and he's built something that DC can only admire
he went at it the right way from the get go, suffered through growing pains,
and UNLV has a football program for the first time in a generation

UNLV has only 9 JC transfers
most from around LV
and they have 10 transfers from other FBS and FCS 4 year programs (Northwestern, Oregon State, Arizona)

USU is another prime example of a good system.
Their O and D lines are almost exclusively home grown.
Their JC recruits? Mostly from Snow, Dixie and Southern Utah-feeder programs

UW ? We have 20 JC transfers-and and we were yanking schollys from walk ons to offer JC players to fill holes even after the season started...
and that aint what a system looks like pards, thats what desperation looks like

But whatever the case, the next coach needs 4-5 years to build a program-and then we'll know what we have.
Hauk (who makes less than half what we pay DC) is on his 4th year, and he said at the beginning of the season that this was the year that he should either prove himself or be fired, and he took over a joke of a program in 2010-much worse than what Glenn left DC (see New Mexico Bowl-2009, mostly Glenn's boys)....and after four years he told the UNLV faithful, this is it-if I'm not successful fire me.

DC, well he's been around a year longer, and has more excuses than BYU has assholes...

But the fault is truly as much Burman's as it is DC's - he don't know where he's going so he's always almost there-and he sure enjoys the ride.

He spent twice as much on this coach, lied to UW fans many times about his direction of the program, enjoyed his bonfires of vanities, and has nothing to show for millions of dollars and five years of hubris but a smoking hole where a football program ought to be....

to be fair, he has an award winning endzone design... I guess there is that

If we ever get a real AD, we might consider building strong relationships with coaches of local CC's and D-III programs who share our philosphy, help them recuit tweeners (esp WY,CO,MT, NE and Dakota athletes).....use them as feeders when needed....

The truth is..
it takes a while to build a team with HS recruits, they are a LOT of hard work behind the scenes
and there will be some kids you arent sure of = you cant waste a scholly, but you can put them in a feeder program, stay in touch with them, and see if they develop...
Sure, you are going to miss on a few schollies you give some kids,
but you cant be an asshole and run them off if they have growing pains
you cant treat them like the property of your private corporation
you have to nurture them as you challenge them
you have to realize that one of your major roles is developing
big boys into young men
and letting the good folks of Wyoming know what great kids they have on their team-win or lose

the right system and the right philosphy pays dividends with your players-even if you are outcoached or outgunned

Part of that philosophy is that it should never be about the AD or the head coach, it should always be about the kids on the team.
It isnt the coaches team, it belongs to the people of the state.

Joe Glenn got that, Paul Roach got that, Joe Tiller got that
DC never did-neither does Burman
thats why 10 years from now-hell, next year even
the first three will drink free in nearly any bar in Wyoming
:thumb:
and Burman and DC (and Schroyer) will not...
ever

Excellent post!

If you are aspiring to hauk (too lazy to check spelling) then you are dreaming too little. This is his first season with a winning record. As a fan base we would have called for his head last season. Christensen made a bowl game in years one and three of his program. This is hauks first season close to .500. Remember coach c won mwc coach of the year in year three. How many has hauk won? Zero and he won't get it this year either

All I was saying is that I was surprised UNLV won, not to mention completely dominated SDSU like that.

sorry my reply was to wyo alum's post.13 wins in four seasons does not a great football coach make. I like you am very surprised by UNLV's season but aside from SDSU very underwhelming wins on their schedule. Kudos to them but i'm not jumping on "their model of success" at all. Let them string together a few good seasons first.

Chaz7 you miss my point if you think I am pinin to hire Hauk, or copy his system at UNLV.

I am saying that we better dismount from our high horse, its headed the wrong damn direction and stuck in a smoking hole- and the outfit that just rode past us has been ridin shetland ponies for years. Its time for a change of leadership in the AD's office.

UNLV has had two winning seasons in all the time they've been in the WAC and MWC. One of those seasons was 13 years ago, and one was this year.

they finally got a system that works for them-they suffered through some lean years with it, but now its makin a little hay, and thats enough to leave our poor slickers in the dust,

We shouldnt be too proud to try to learn something-if something is there to be learned...even if the folks we learn it from aint exactly what we'd ever aspire to be-they got a system thats got them out of the wilderness-so do the Aggies
and like it or not, they have better Athletic programs than we do right now

We gotta quit thumpin our chest when we squeak out wins over Idaho, Northern Colorado, New Mexico and Hawaii
We got Oregon and Michigan State next year, and we are bringing a knife to a gunfight. Our O line is terrible, our D line is small, the foreman just hightailed it for better pickins and the the cupboard is pretty damn bare...its high time we got ourselves a system..and a new AD

Why don't we wait and see how UNLV does next year before we compare UNLV and WYO? The had 9 returning starters on both sides of the ball. And even UNLV is bound to have one good season ever 13-15 years.

Yeah losing Cornett and Herring among others will be huge. Reminds me similar to 2011 Wyoming where the bulk of that team left after that season....they get a few key guys back, but most will be gone. UNLV may be a one year wonder. CSU is more likely to continue to get better.

Well Kansas, you are welcome to wait in this mud puddle with Burman.
Look son, its the Christmas season, so I hope your joy in our shallow victories this year and your warm memories of the DC years will keep you happy and warm there. I aint gonna judge but I'm a little weary of listning to you crowing about how great you are, how great UW is, how great it all will be if we'd do it your way, and how those of us that are tired of this shit storm are not as enlightened or as pure in heart as you are.I'm a little tired of you being mean to other folks on here, then whinin' like a whipped pup when they put you in your place.

Maybe Burman will listen and can adopt a system that pleases you. Maybe we schedule Idaho and Northern Colorado for both home and away every year.

But as for me, I think its pretty clear we gotta be bustin trail out of here soon, and when we do, we need to look at what everyone who's makin progress is doing. USU, CSU, UNLV, BSU, San Jose-hell-the University of North and South Damn Dakota for all I care...

You sit here in this shitstorm and be charmed by the sound of your own voice and warmed by the embers of this bonfire of the vanities.
A bunch of galoots on shetlands rode past, and -yeah-I think I'll move on out and see what they know.

Are you freaking kidding me? What the fuck dude? Seriously, what the fuck is your problem with me?
What I just said about UNLV is legit. They have been worse than WYO year after year. They have been the true bitten feeder of this league. Hauck has been busting out 2 win seasons every year but this one. Their best record since their last bowl (in 2000!!!) has been 5-7 twice. Their due for one winning season, they had everyone and their dog back, next year they lose a bunch of talent, expect a drop off.
You act like them having one good year is the equivalent to them having turned the corner, and we are worse off. Our numbers compared to theirs for the last decade speak the real story.
Get off your high horse!

Sorry Kansas
I was cranky today
and you are certain to come out spittin like a ring tailed wonder if anyone crosses you,
so I crossed you
I am a cantankerous old coot,
I'd say I'm tryin to reform, but that'd be lyin.

But I am sorry-you really had nothin to do with this.

My WHOLE POINT is...NOT

that UNLV is the second coming of Nortre Dame or that Hauk is the next Urban Meyer

My whole point is that UNLV IS historically much worse than we are-MUCH worse
and yet this year
they aint

when something as odd as UNLV having a better season than UW happrens
you should pay attention
be curious
see whats going on

my conclusion in that our system is broke, and it looks like they might have one after all these years
you like our AD and supported DC through thick and thin
we disagree-no surprise

Okay. I can take this. It's all good. But for the record, I've never supported Burman, and I support any coach we have till the end.

Again, sorry bout that.
Made an assuption and shouldnt have, and believe me-I think its great of you to support our team they way you do
I guess I just woke up and looked in the mirror today and wondered if I'm gonna live long enough to see this turn around,
and why I care
I mean hell, its nothin in the scheme of things
but you know, my grandkids have never really seen cowboy tough football.
Sure would like to see that happen-like to be in the War on a sunny autumn day when we kick the crap out of CSU to win the MWC crown,
damn...

Interesting that Burman doesnt even get much support from the most rabidly supportive fans...
who the hell does support the guy and why is he still here?
Stay tuned for the next episode....
