Anyone confirm that he has or will be interviewing for the job? Current coach at Carroll College, Wyoming alum.

Haven't heard a thing about Van Beast in my neck of the woods, but I would think he would be better off in a business sense, to stay right where he is for now.

If you can land Van Diest, you will be getting a proven winner with solid assistants who could change the culture for the positive at Wyoming.

It'd be a big jump for a guy to go from NAIA to Div. 1 football. He's a defense oriented guy who's offense is a power offense.. not really the wide open offense needed to stay alive in the MWC (sans Air Force).

I would love for the new staff at wyoming to be littered with guys that have played or other ties to UW, but I just don't see a great NAIA coach coming in and recruiting the type of athlete we need. I am sure he is a great NAIA recruiter but doubt he currently has the contacts to land players to compete with TCU, Utah, and BYU. Any good coach with UW ties would be on my wish list if I were HC building a staff.

One thing to remember about Van Diest, he is getting kids that have played at the Division One Level or are legitimate Division One Kids to Carroll because of the outstanding Academics they offer.

The guy can recruit. Being at Divison One will make it easier because of the financial resources he will have.

His QB Ritter was passed over by the Griz and Cats. A guy from Butte I know was really high on Ritter.. but he was just too small. Same could be said for Tyler Emmert.. to small to be a Griz.

Mr. Titlelist,

I am not sure Ritter was passed over, I just think passed over as a QB. I think the Cats and Griz saw him as an athlete.

Broadhead I believe got looks and offers from FBS and FCS schools.

I'd heard Ritter wanted to be a Griz, and coaches told him to walk on. I imagine he got some sort of scholly from Carroll though.

Mr. Titelist,

You are probably correct but Marc Mariani was a walk one once too, and look where he is , maybe the best money reciever in all of FCS.

Colt Anderson was also a walk-on.
Some friends of Mariani's parents sit in front of us at all of the games. They're great.

I wouldnt like Van Diest. I just believe we would be along the same lines as hiring Joe Glenn. Hiring a coach from a lower level I think we need to bring in a coach with D1 experience.
