McManamen on the short list for state player of the year

He led his team to a conference title, 2 Regional Championships, and 2 state titles during his tenure. Averaged a double double (20 points and 10 rebounds).

Here are a couple clips that show his ability and character

This.

No one has ever claimed that Adam Waddell was supposed to be the second coming of Eric Leckner. I do not even think that Theo or Uche were that good. I was personally very satisfied with the skill level that our bigs played with this year.

On a similar note, did anyone hear what Charles Barkley had to say about Wisconsin last night?

What I am looking forward to is having a player that has the intermediate game that is so typical in Wyoming H.S. ball but was missing from the team this past year.

Not to pile on, but...WTF? First of all, obviously Waddell and McManamen play very different positions. Secondly, we would all be ecstatic if McManamen puts together a career as productive as Adam.

We need more Adam Waddell's. Period.

Waddell has, if nothing else remained consistent throughout the year for us.

hey Aaron, sorry to get under your thin skin, Waddell was consistent to be inconsistent at times. He seemed to get softer the older he got. I'm all for us having an instate product, even though they are at one of my arch rivals (my being from Buffalo and he at Torrington..lol). When I watched Adam this year his rebounding was still the same ol butterfingers at times and he didn't like contact down low, just calling it like i seen it. There are things like heart and hustle i'll miss, but it's time for us to maintain a dominant post presence upcoming, it's been many years coming, Eric and Uche and Theo were our true big man the past few years to speak of. We need our shooters to get hotter and let's play an inside out game instead of the opposite. Shyatt will have it working in the future.

My skin is far from thin. But it gets old when you take every goddamn post to put down a kid who has bled brown and gold his whole life. I thank Adam for the last four years and I hope that no matter what skill level our players come in with they put half the heart into the program that he did.

man, i know what he did/bled etc....don't have to like him cuz everyone else does. that's all....On to better things in the future!!

Honestly we don't need more Adam Waddells. Maybe from a likeability standpoint but production? How about Marcus Baileys? Leonards Washingtons?

I love Waddell, but that doesn't mean we need more of him.

Luke Martinez out scored and REBOUNDED him... Enough said.

Adam Waddell is exactly what Wyoming needs more of. We need guys who will bleed brown and gold and do everything they can to help the team succeed. He has played injured most of his career, but you don't hear him bitch about it or make excuses. He comes out and plays hard with a smile on his face.

You fucks that are knocking him are completely off base....and completely clueless. Who cares what his stats were, he brought something else to this team...HEART.

Go cry on gowyogo then. If HEART was the only thing we needed I would be playing all fucking 5 positions tool. How many of those freshman/sophomores on kentucky bleed Blue and White? But how did they get to the final4 without heart then? Oh I know SKILL. being GOOD at their position. Like I said I love Waddell but when your SG out rebounds your Center you think you need more players like your damn center?

"who cares what his stats were" and I'm completely clueless. Dipshit.

I have no respect for Coach Calipari or what he did at UMass and Memphis or even now at Kentucky. I put Coach Huggins at Cincy, K-State & West Virginia in that same category. They might win games but they dishonor the schools that hire them.

Someone said, "How about Marcus Baileys? Leonards Washingtons?" Both of these players were star players. Rarely does the 6'10" 240# senior center bring the same thing to the table that the 6'5" 190# slashing wing player does. In my view, one of the problems with McClain's latter years was that he had too many mercinaries and not enough players who were invested in the program's reputation beyond a season or two.

A good team is made up of many players filling numerous roles.

In defense of Mr. Waddell, the consensus among those who did not have a rooting interest in the Cowboys was that he would be a key component if the team was to be successful. Last time I checked, one of our "good" wins was the game down in Boulder where Adam put on a big man clinic with Leonard Washington.

At the end of the day, to sell tickets, we have to have players that do a good job of linking the team and the university to the resident of Wyoming who will fill the seats. Adam did that. I think that JayDee did that too. Not every top scorer can.

This year, the real question was Did Adam do the job and fill the role that he was asked to by the Coach? I believe that we saw someone who had more raw athleticism depart in December because he did not have what it took to simply do his job in the manner that he was told to do it.

Finally, to be fair, Fennis Dembo (playing the #3 spot) out-rebounded Eric Leckner who was 6'11" 270# and was a 1st Round NBA draft pick. I would take another center like Leckner who got out-rebounded by a 6'5" G/F again without thinking twice.

I believe Adam's career is over. I appreciate the effort, but the bottom line is we need better everywhere.

Did you count how many times Adam took a charge? How many time he was on the ground trying to get a loose ball? What was his FG%? He had twice as many blocks, steals, and assists than he had turnovers. As someone pointed out below, stats are only part of the picture. You need to look at the whole picture to get a clue as to how a player contributed to a team.

As far as crying on gowyogo, who the hell are you? I'm standing up for a true Cowboy and you're telling me to go cry on the gowyogo board? Good grief.
