People were calling for Shyatt to pull Grabaus scholly after his freshman year. (LOL)
People were worried about Nance replacing Washington. (LOLOL)
People didn't think McManamen could seriously contribute.....
When will we realize Shyatt knows just a little bit more about developing basketball players than us?
We give him the credit AFTER it's done, but call him out and question him BEFORE it's done.
Next time you want to say "This kid sucks, why is he playing so much?" just remember who his coach is.
He is very good at developing players, no doubt. I don't think anyone here has really questioned his ability to develop players. I worry though sometimes about his ability to recruit talent. I don't know if we can consistently be a top level team relying mostly on developing overlooked high school players. I'm happy for Jason and think he is reaching his ceiling, indicative of good player development. But if Jason is our 2nd best player, which he is right now and will be top returning player next year, I worry about the overall rosters lack of talent. That has been my point all along.
This is exactly what I am talking about. "I worry about the overall rosters lack of talent".
Dude seriously? JMac has the BEST 3point % in the MWC.
And he is averaging more points right now than Josh Adams did last season.
Did you worry about the rosters lack of talent last season when Josh wasn't scoring as much as JMac is now?
Not only that but Aka Gorski is shooting the 6th best 3 point FG % in the MWC. As a sophomore.
And Justin James? He is shooting 19th best, but not even 2% worse than Josh Adams. JJ is a freshman, and is shooting 35.3% from 3. Josh is shooting 37.1% but his last 3 seasons, 32.4% as a JR, 31.3% as a SO, and a whopping 22.6% as a freshman.
We have Naughton and Barnes who have both showed glimpses of being contributors.
Plus, we have Herndon, who although is not a star, is adding a solid 7 and 4 per game. No reason he shouldn't improve on that next season.
Our team is not loaded with elite talent, but it is loaded with competitors, and solid talent, along with an elite coach, and kids willing to be coached.
So all in all, we return 3 of the top 19 3 point shooters in the MWC next season, and will no longer be the 6th youngest team in the country.
