Maybe it is just selective memory...

but wasn't Wyoming once known for our good punters and place kickers? Depoyster, Fleming, Gragert, Wedel (sp?). It seems that, for the past decade plus, we have been hurting in the kicking department.

McCoy was a good punter, but you're right about the kicking situation. Yaussi and Elling were the last good ones I can remember.

You are right. McCoy was pretty good.
Uh, he had good days and really bad days. Like when he would punt, and it would bounce off the back of one of the guys going down field and end up being a 10-20 yard punt...

The Wyo Athletic site only shows football stats for the last 13 seasons. Statistically for our kicking game the best season was Watts/McCoy in 2009, the second best was Watts/McCoy 2010 and the third best was Wallum/Donovan 2001. I say you go down the list of top kickers and punters and find guys from Wyoming type areas (ie-not Los Angeles, Chicago, etc.) and offer them a scholarship. Gleeson isn't gay, if anything he probably left for that reason, after he ran out of good looking girls to go after in Laramie! Don't be surprised to see him pop up at another program in sunnier climes.

Back in the 60s Wyoming has two of the best kickers, Jerry DePoyster, and Bob Jacobs. We could really use an reincarnation of those two.

It seems like nationally kicking has gotten worse.....50+ yard FGs are now a rarity...anywhere! Wonder why it is that its becoming hard to find kickers?

Could it be they're all playing freaking soccer?

Anyone know whatever became of Watts? He give up football after UW?

McCoy was a good punter considering the coaches consistently made him switch between rugby and conventional style. I think Elling had the best leg of kickers in recent memory.

Has there ever been a time where 50 yard field goals were not a rarity in the college game??? I actually think kicking has improved across the board in college football over the past decade.

Elling could hit some long field goals, but his KO average was only 49.7yards. Anyone remember if we were squib kicking a lot then?

I believe he left because of bad grades. I had met his dad at one of the games and at the time his dad said that Ian was ready to walk on at several schools in the Philadelphia area until the offer came from DC for a scholarship. I hope the kid got his act together and went back to school.
