The most interesting thing about this article to me is the revelation that Jason Thompson almost transferred out after the fall semester. That would have been a BIG loss for us. I'm glad that the coaches and players were able to talk him into staying.

There seems to be a lot of "well if I can't start then I guess I'm leaving." Ask how that's worked out Pittser or the number of other transfers. Glad he stayed, he'll be an important part of this team, but sometimes patience is key.

I like what Thompson can do, he just needs to work on his accuracy and control.

Good to hear Thompson decided to stay. Its tough on any athlete knowing that you have the potential but have to wait your turn. On another note with May out do you still redshirt the other freshman rb (Tapscott ) or burn it ? My thoughts would be you have Miller, Wick and Stover as your main backs and redshirt the Tapscott kid unless you get more injuries to the 3 backs. Makes no sense to use up his redshirt for a few carries a game. Kind of like the situation with Thompson last year. Burning his redshirt was necessary, but didnt win us any games. That cost him a year for 2 games.

You don't really ever "burn a redshirt".. if you use a don't redshirt as a freshman you can still use it later in your college career.. so it's not a huge deal if we have to pull a guy off of redshirt early, he'd still be able to use it as a sophomore if necessary.

Glad Thompson stayed. QBs seem to be the most common position to transfer without immediate playing time. We saw it back in the Glenn days with Stinson Dean and Headley.

Still see it today, in particular at the big schools as well. I feel like I saw a million tweets on the Oklahoma State kid going to Illinois. Norte Dame also seems to have a transfer every year too.

If Brett has the season we all expect him to and does take a shot at the NFL, Jason's time could come very soon!

That grabbed my attention as well. That would have a been a huge loss. Second most interesting thing to me is that May is slinging enough steel to tear his pec bench pressing.....just don't see heavy bench press figuring into many of the modern workouts. Not a criticism, just struck me as odd......especially for a RB.

Let's just say AP doesn't get on the cover of muscle & fitness by NOT bench pressing heavy weight.

Doesn't really mean he can bench press a lot of weight.
Could have been over doing it, had bad form, had a lingering injury finally tear because of not stretching, definitely doesn't correlate to benching a whole bunch and being strong.

Wick is going to have to carry the load with Miller......the Wyo RB corps was already feeble to begin with, things aren't looking better with May out. If the running game ends up being awful again early on, it may be best to put Easton out there to block and just play it out with Brett Smith....similar to what Fresno is doing with Carr. Rouse is gone, so they plan to live and die with Derek.

Anyone can tear a pec doing bench press with just a normal lift. Just like you can tear a hammie by just running

"Leading rusher" is really misleading when that guy didn't even get to 400 rushing yards.

Lol yeah that is a bit ridiculous.

Our running game hasn't been good since Demo/Seldon.

I don't know about Demo/Seldon being that great. The 2011 running game had more yards with less carries when compared with any Demo/Seldon/ Glenn team. I acknowledge that those teams had some major sack yardage tacked on, but still numbers count.

A sub-400 year doesn't sound too impressive, but he was still our leading rusher and most effective running back. He simply didn't get many chances. If Brett were to throw the ball less than a hundred times last year, he wouldn't have all the passing yards and TDs. Brett had more chances to do his thing and it paid off. Who knows what May could have done, last year or this year, given more and consistent carries. Maybe it's a blessing, he'll grow some, get a bit faster and hopefully a bit stronger during this red shirt year.

So I checked out Mizzou's offense the last couple years that DC was the OC there, and wow. Those teams kicked ass. I would love for us to be at that level, and am glad that DC wants to run the team like he did there, but the biggest difference between those teams and this team is the running game.
Mizzou had a RB going for over 1000 yards, along with a couple guys putting up a little over 300.
That opens it up for Chase Daniels to go off.

We have no guy that can run the ball that effectively.
12 games, 1000 yards, 83.33 yards a game is what we need from a guy.
Our offense basically has the 2 guys that got a little over 300, the stud QB, the bad ass WR's, but just no 1 star RB.
I know the O-line needs to improve before we can get that, but the DC Mizzou Spread is effective as possible when you have the star RB.

All true....the issue is the O-Line and RB problems are genuine talent issues. One's that are hard to overcome. There is no DeMo in this group, and the O-Line is like McPeachy said....awful until proven otherwise. Until we see something different, its Brett Smith and his WRs against the world.

I hear what you are saying Beaver, but don't agree. I think the biggest difference is a healthy QB. We don't need a 1,000 yard rusher to be a good rushing team. Our 2011 squad with a heathly BS put up similar rushing numbers (even better rushing numbers than 08 Mizzou). A balanced running back corp and a health Brett for 100 good carries makes us a good running team, and likely a bowl team. However, Brett needs to stay healthy and I don't know if he can do that with his style of running. I think he could tweak his running style and stay health for a whole year, but we have yet to see that.

Of course it would be great to have a solid 1000 yard running back, but I think the Mizzou running game was the best when Chase Daniels was getting around 110 carries a year. If Brett could keep his carries around that number and get a decent YPC we will have a good rushing offense.

I have to say I do think Omar Stover has the potential to be that guy as a RB. I am not saying this year, but between him and May in over the next 3 years they should make quite a fine tandem IMO.
