"After committing to Louisiana Tech as a greyshirt, 2012 Camarillo (Calif.) receiver Jake Maulhardt signed with Wyoming this week..."

Big ass kid.....if he can move, could be a diamond in the rough.

We needed a tall WR after Doctson left. Doubt he has good speed, but if he can go up and get them, he will be valuable

Apparently he doesn't want to play TE, wants to stick at WR. Part of why he chose UW.

Kid was a 2nd team All-CIF selection in Calif 2011 and Scout.com had him rated as one of their breakout players for 2012. Was an early Boise State commit as a Junior but after Pease left for Fla they no longer honored his commitment. This is definitely weird since he showed up as LA Tech commit as late as June 2nd. Maybe the transfer of his buddy former HS CA and LA Tech QB Nick Isham had something to do with him not staying with his original commitment to La Tech, since this was his main connection to La Tech. Isham transferred after Spring from La Tech as he was demoted and lost his strating job at the end of last season. He is walking on at Arizona.

CDC more than likely told him that he still had a scholarship for him at WR if he wanted to come in. I could see this kid being deadly in the red zone at 6'7. Decent speed, not breakaway by any stretch, but excellent hands. He set the Calif record as a SR with 28 catches (yes 28 catches) in a single game for 350 yards. Pretty insane. Nice pick-up and fill-in for the departed Doctson, sans the ego and attitude.

Anyone ever find out why Doctson left? He was the clear #1 WR as a freshman with a freshman QB that zoned in on him a lot. Hard to find a better situation than that.

He had a GF back home, and his mommy works at TCU...the women in his life got to him....
Ah....that would do it. Thanks.

Sorry, but that does make him a momma's boy. Could have been the next big time WR at Wyoming since Jovon Bouknight. Here's hoping Trent takes his spoils.

Wouldn't be the first time a woman got in the way of a man!

He did rip wyo a lot when he left, which sucks.

Yeah, I remember that too.....uncalled for. He has the right to leave, but there's no need to trash the place.

Baffling choice though...he showed tremendous potential at the end of last season. Nope, lets opt for rotting on TCU's bench instead. :brick:

He reminds me of a "TALL" Marcus Harris. He is reliable with making a catch anywhere on the field, even under cover. But, With this kids height and jumping ability I see a new quality even Harris didn't have. This kid might be a true player at WYO.

"I then told [Nick] Isham to give them [Tech coaches] my film. Coach [Tony] Franklin came out and I liked him right away. He told me they didn't have any scholarships for this season but would give me a greyshirt. I was still talking to Wyoming about a possible spot for this season but I caught Wyoming in some shady recruiting"
Wow, I wonder what he met by that statement. Must not have been to big a deal since he's with us now.

Whoa...that is an odd quote. Wyoming has been ranked in the 100s in recruiting for years...."shady" is hardly the word you think would come up. Maybe his definition of shady is they didn't offer him right away.

So is this guy gonna be w/ the 2012 team or the 2013 team?

I believe he could attend fall camp and play this year. Or does a grey shirt lose a year if they transfer before they ever play?

Yeah, or they were in on some other guys like Sewell and Brown and when they got those guys they no longer had room. Under the firm belief that if you are a tweener or not "the" guy or guys they want, college coaches are incapable of telling you the truth, and until the NCAA mandates an early signing period for football, this will continue to be the case, unfortunately. He probably heard how "he was their #1 guy" and saw all these guys being offered in front of him. I can't see the shadiness other than something like this, and every college in the country does that. Moot point now, WELCOME ABOARD JAKE!
