Looking around the MW

Well I know it's very early and we don't really know shit about any teams in the country yet but some interesting scores around the MWC tonight. Is UNLV totally underachieving again?? Barely scraping by Cal Poly at the T & M?
Bwhahwhwhah    Where are you now Dave Rice fanboy? This is a great sign! I wouldn't mind seeing them implode again but I don't want them to get a real coach either.

Looking like Air Force and Fresno St could be up a little this year just by the score lines. Not too sure what to think about Boise St, USU, and New Mexico just yet. Seems like our conference is gonna be down in hoops this year with most likely the usual suspects SDSU and New Mexico being early favs. Can the Pokes once again challenge for a title? It doesn't seem too mind blowing to me at this moment but I'm a little concerned with our bigs. Didn't see us play or hear it. Let me know your thoughts.

I wouldn't get to worked up over scores after the first game. Boise losing to Montana isn't that big of a surprise especially since the game was at Montana and Montana is expected to be good this year. We will see where they are at in a couple of months.

UNLV will be a team that gets better as the year goes on with as many freshman as they have but again Rice could screw it up with his coaching even though I think this is the most talented UNLV team he has had.

I can't take anything really from those close games just as I don't think you can really tell much yet with New Mexico winning by a lot or us. Teams will get better as the season goes along and some teams will get worse.

As far as us challenging for the title I don't see that happening. I do think we have some great young talent and think we will get better. Fresno St. beat the same Bristol team last year in their first game of the season by about 40 points just like we did and Fresno finished middle of the conference. I still think we will finish somewhere in the middle but do see a lot of bright spots for the future. I actually think we will be loaded for next year with everyone back but Adams.

San Diego St. had a nice win tonight over a tough Illinois St. team.

Well said. I just don't think we'll finish above middle of the pack. The only way I thought we could get into the upper echelon of the MWC is if Herndon took a mega-leap. Nope. He still plays like he's 5' 10'' instead of 6' 10''. Biggest waste of a big body I've ever seen. I we could only put Dalton's mind and heart in Herndon's body.

I'm holding my opinion on herndon. This team is still learning where and how the pieces fit together. Maybe he is a plus size haldorson, but with any luck he'll be a significant contributor as the team sorts itself out.

Well I just know that barring any injuries/off court incidents every team under Shyatt progresses to the end. I feel like this our major advantage over probably half the conference alone. If this team stays healthy they will gel more and get better as time goes on. I'm guessing we have enough talent to compete in the top 5 this year by the end of season with our coaching staff. Yes this is the most premature thread ever but hey it's something to chat about right :thumb:

Conference play is always where the rubber meets the road. I'm really thinking as of now SDSU, Fresno St, and New Mexico as the first 3 danger teams. Next tier might be the Pokes, CSU, Boise, and UNLV. USU and Air Force should be tough outs but maybe more a step down from the 2nd tier. As far as coaching and talent combos are concerned SDSU might be the only one we might not be able to catch...however this is again ridiculously early to say from a guy that hasn't seen any of these teams play  Still we only need to bump an SDSU at home and I like the fact that'll be one our last games. If we are young then by that point we'll have developed a lot. I just feel like we finally have some depth and can hang with damn near any MW team always.

Csu starting to run away with this game, it's early still but Csu is hitting everything from deep.

CSU looks pretty physically strong and athletic, but maybe not the most lights out shooters. UNI doesn't look like the same team that put the whooping on us. Their ball movement isn't that great and they are just settling for some bad shots.
