Levi Williams to start vs. San Jose State

I’m sure he felt some pressure to do it. If he looked at the tape Levi played pretty decent if it wasn’t for the holding penalties by the offensive line.

Think he gives us a better chance than Chambers does.

Glad he is at least giving Levi a Chance to start and hopefully play at least a whole half or more. That’s good news. Guess we will find out if it will help any. San Jose St. playing at their home is a tough game. They took the Aztecs to OT a couple weeks ago.

Regardless of outcome, Williams should be given an entire game at a minimum. Chambers was given many chances and Williams deserves a fair shot.

That said, I would bring chambers in for a play or two in certain situations as a ‘wildcat’ QB (I.e. 3rd and 1).

POKES need a spark. I hope Levi can provide it. He deserves a legit shot like Oredigger says; not some sort of abbreviated playbook with 99.9% dives followed by "we tried a QB change and that didn't work".

Good luck, Levi! POKES need you to turn this ship around or at least plug the holes and stop the sinking.

Glad he's getting a chance. Hopefully he can settle in and complete some passes and score some points. Oline needs to step up big too!

For the most part I partly agree with you. I think the only thing Vigen did well was tailor the offense around Sean’s skill set and it won quite a few games. We’ve seen the results of trying to make Sean into something he’s not. If Sean were to get back, I think we’d probably need to go back to Vigen’s playbook with him and run him more. If we won’t because we’re concerned about injuries, then it’s clear Sean shouldn’t see much field. I hope Levi comes in and does well. He looked great in the bowl game but not great last year. I really hope it was all because of the shoulder. He looked ok last week. Maybe getting more practice reps abs starting will help

You make a great point. All of us wanted to see them open the playbook, but we have seen how disastrous it has been with Chambers skill set. Levi deserves a shot at this point to see if we can spark anything on offense.

Who is the 3rd stringer?

Bohl has never named a 3rd stringer. I believe it must be Gavin Beerup because I don't think other QBs have traveled this year (but I could be wrong).

Beerup. Now that's a name that could win some games for Wyoming.

We saw him last year twice (against Boise and New Mexico). It wasn't pretty but hopefully he progressed. He currently has an 8.5 career quarterback rating.

Here are his career stats:

CMPATTCMP% YDS AVGTD INT LNGRTG
2 13 15.4 37 2.8 0 2 19 8.5

Throwing stats out for a guy that was never given the reps/snaps/opportunity to show his talents is akin to eating a full corn on the cob and expecting to count the number of kernels appearing the next day to be accounted for...

Anyone can pull stats out of their ass to reinforce their opinion. Doesn't mean that those stats are worth the hole they came from.

Not sure where you’re going with that but sure.

I do believe Beerup was given the lion’s share of second team snaps after chambers injury last year but it is always going to be difficult for a true freshman QB when thrown into the game. I’m guessing that many would agree in the hopes he has been able to progress over the last year. I dont believe he got many reps in the spring game, I don’t personally know why.

I personally thought Beerup was going to need a lot of work on mechanics. Some of that might of been freshman not knowing the offense or reads well. However, he also didn't climb the depth chart in a pretty inaccurate QB room. Talent or coaches more familiar with Chambers and Williams? Who knows.

Besides Chambers and Williams, Hank Gibbs is the only other QB I’ve heard coach mention by name. It was “Hank Gibbs did some nice things” in reference to one of the camps.

This discussion highlights why I wish Bohl would open camps and practices more.

POKES are one of the hardest teams to follow on all of CFB.
