Let's be the first...

By the way, a fun project is to make your own antenna! I admit that I am a bit of a nerd; however, with the DIY videos online, literally anyone can make their own antenna. For those with kids that want to do a neat (and useful) science fair project, I suggest making a coat hanger antenna! I have been impressed with the range and signal strength on some coat hanger antennas; they literally will beat the indoor amplified antennas that you can find in Walmart.

For all of you that have cut cable I can only suggest taking a hard look at XBMC and the Mashup plugin. There is no easier way to get all your cable shows 1-2 hours after they air every week and never have to pay for any of them.

I don't have mashup but have projectfreetv and icefilms among others that work really well. Is mashup different? I haven't cut the cord but just like to have all the options. I probably could do it but not willing to pull the trigger yet.

XBMC + Mashup is like having a 2000 channel world cable package and every PPV event that airs all at your finger tips. It has honestly made me think multiple times around cutting our cable all together because it has EVERYTHING.

Here is what I did, I took all my excess computer parts and built a small but semi powerful computer.

I gave my DVR back to the cable company that I paid 18/month for HD and all the goodies.

I then purchased a InfiniTV 4 PCIe $199

I purchased a 2TB Hard Drive $100

I know have a 4 Channel Tuner and basically unlimited DVR space plus with XBMC integration I have access to Hulu, Amazon, Netflix and every possible streaming source including MWC games in one location my only fee back to the cable company is a $2 a month fee for a TV card for digital channels.

If I really wanted to further minimize it I could have built it around a small case that wouldn't be much bigger than a DVR is. This has been my best investment I have made in terms of TV and entertainment.

I use the Sports Devil plugin for most sports and also ustvnow. Mashup is pretty good; it has just about everything you could ever want.
