lacking playing time may cause a player unhappy

I think Washington's struggles can be directly related to his limited playing time. I believe the lack of playing time he's had has added to his poor play for two reasons. First its hard to generate any rhythm in such limited playing time. And second I think his lack of playing time has hurt his confidence. I really like Larry Shyatt but this is one of the few complaints I have with him, he seems very apprehensive in playing the younger guys. Adams is really the only guy he's recruited that received significant playing time from day one. I think his unwillingness to play the younger guys really stunts their growth and hurts the depth of the team. Sometimes you have to suffer through a younger players struggles before you can reap the rewards and I wish Shyatt was a little more willing to take this approach. I think it would really help the overall depth of the team and prevent our team from tiring out at the end of the season.

First, Adams was forced into significant playing time, he wasn't getting hardly any before Martinez went out. And outside of freshman having to play do to a loss of a player or barring the fact that you have a freshman stud like Wiggins at KU who will bolt for the NBA in a year or two, I don't see hardly any teams play Freshman unless it is neccesary. Just like High school, it's hard for any freshman jv player to transition over and start varsity.

His lack of confidence due to lack of playing time indicates to me that he hasn't accepted his role on the team, and it also shows how "green" he is. Cause whether you get playing time or not, you still practice, you still gain rythem, you should lose no confidence. The only ones that do generally lose confidence are the freshman who generally expect to start and think selfishly instead of team oriented.

I think that is reading too much into it. Grabau played a pretty similar level of limited playing time as Washington when he was a freshman and he also struggled with his shot in limited opportunities (15% from the arc as a frosh). It happens.
 
Trey had ok minutes but to me he looked lost, and that jackup at half time, purdy bad....Grabau needs to put it up more, but I do like that he's starting to go to the hole more, all our guards need to do this more often with Larry out, get the players in foul trouble, and Sellers actually looked ok to me, Granberry being a Senior it's time to put the ball up!!!! I like what Hank's doing as well. we aren't done yet!!!
 
I think we have the potential to be competitive without Nance, but worst case scenario, I don't see another win. Nance had 20 points in our 7 pt win over AFA last time, someone is going to have to step up big time. Nance was a factor in the USU game, he was a big factor against Boise. I could easily see us losing out. That would be 17-14 at the end of regular season and probably a first round loss in conf tourn. 17-15 and more than likely no post season.

Before I get bashed on here, I'm not wanting this to happen, I hope the team learns to win starting tomorrow without Nance. And I do believe this will be beneficial for Halderson and Sellers for next year. I think Halderson has the potential to become the next Nance over the next two years and can become a force, Herndon will likely become another Cooke with Nances defensive capabilities. Sellers will continue to be the backup. I think we will be okay and I hope we can get a few more wins this season.
I'm not saying Nance won't come back strong, but I will not put all my eggs in that basket expecting him to be who he was when he does come back. Everyone that blows an ACL constantly feels the pressure on the knee and plays gingerly on it. Ugo did, Bailey did. They were great but struggled on their knees.

I'm still hoping for 20 wins this year. Go Pokes!
 
Sellers looked lost at times. Not confident in his role during the weave along the 3pt line. He was open a few times and our guards seemed a bit reluctant to pass to him (compared to Nance anyways). He did well at the ft line though. 4-4 in his 3 or so min playing. If his defense was decent, he would be an ok player.

I wonder if too many of the wrong guys were trying to fill nance's shoes against CSU. Riley was pretty much locked down and couldn't get an open look for three...but he and Granberry and Hankerson are the guys we need to kick it up a notch. Sobey, Adams, and Cooke should be fine at their previous level of play...when they try to elevate their game, they get sloppy.

Yet every time he got the ball he made a horrible shot. How the hell he cant shoot over everyone is a mystery to me

but at least he's giving it his all, and I respect that, as for Washington, i think the game is too fast for him, imo
