Kicking Game

The scheme is the rugby style, not the punter...sure there are some guys that lack hangtime, but they only do the rugby punt because that's what the coach wants. You don't recruit a kid as a traditional vs. rugby-style punter; they can either kick it or they can't.

I've never seen a rugby kick blocked. I've seen them almost get to the kicker doing what you said and just rushing one guy hard to the punters foot side. I think there's more risk to a traditional punter. You say that a guy can time the punt and get an extra 20 yards but he's fielding it on a hop. I've seen traditional punters out kick the coverage and results in big returns or coverage is too far down field and the returner is gone for td. Rugby punts have better chance of hitting a blocker In the back. Or going over returners head for big punt. You boot one really far traditionally and the returner will get under it for a decent chance at a big gain.

I think the pros don't do it because they have punters that can get the right amount of Hangtime on the far punts and they have the fastest coverage guys around.
