Junior offensive lineman Kurtis Stirneman leaves Wyoming football team

Working backwards here. Come on to see if there are any verbals coming out of the weekend visits and see +1, but -2. Need to lock down some commitments - it's almost go time!

At the latest count UW has 20 commitments, and that is very typical and slightly ahead of other schools right now, so they are doing fine there. There are at most 5 open spots left and the Pokes have over 40 offers out there to uncommitted players by Brandon Foster's latest count. The real key is to get the RIGHT ones, and not just fill spots.

As far as Joe Parker and Kurtis Stirneman are concerned, while you never like to see players leave the program, both of these young men will be better served by moving on. Joe Parker was not going to see the field except as a special teamer. When Austin Conway came over, he was like Joe Parker, smallish WR and quick and fast, but lets be frank, Austin has more talent and will be an important cog in the offense for several years at least. Kurtis Stirneman was also only seeing the field as a special teams lineman, and he is graduating and it is best for him to move on in his career. I wish both of these young men the best in their lives, but their open scholarships can now be used most probably for some hardworking walk-on.

I dare say, that the craziness of recruiting is going on full blast right now, and this weekend will be interesting to see. I hope that we can get a good Long Snapper, a TE and a LB/DE type and a WR with these last open slots. I would love to get Adam Higuera as the Long Snapper, but he is getting a lot of interest from a number of schools right now. I would love to get Travis Vokolek for the LB/DE guy and he is also getting a lot of interest right now. As far as the WR is concerned, I would be happy with either Jared Scott or Tyler Asemota. I think that the Pokes are still trying to get a Safety type and D'Angelo Gunter is who I hope that the Pokes get there. As far as the TE is concerned I was with the understanding that the Pokes were looking at a Nate Weinman out of Ohio, but someone said that he is no longer on the radar for whatever reasons, and I don't have any leaders here. One thing is for sure, Coach Bohl KNOWS football and what makes a good football player and I have full confidence that the players that he is able to get for these last slots will be excellent additions to the UW football program.
