I guess they were rererring to Jimmer Fredette when they say he won't be that good.

Wyoming 84 – Colorao State 66
FEBRUARY 21, 2016
Colorado native Josh Adams, clad in the brown and gold of Border rival Wyoming, ate the Rams’ children as he rolled to a 37 point, 8 rebound, 7 assist performance.

I didn’t go to the game. I gave my seats to a guy who helps around the house as a handyman. Because I could see this one coming a mile away. My only regret is that it would be the last time for me to see Adams who has made himself into an outstanding player. Not Jimmer outstanding but certainly MWC Player of the Year worthy.

Adams was a lightly recruited player coming out of Chaparral High School in Parker. I first became aware of him after talking to someone who did recruit him. This assistant coach told me about a guy who he believed was a high-D1 athlete with raw skills that lots of programs didn’t want to touch because he was considered a loose cannon. This assistant worked in conference well below the Mountain West.

And then Larry Shyatt happened to find Adams, offered him,and off Adams went to Laramie. The rest is history. Kind of. Because in his four years Adams, through hard work and nurturing from a coaching staff that knows how to develop players, went from raw athletic loose cannon to complete player and leader.

Adams played right away in Laramie and had nights where he was completely lost. Probably the worst game of his career was the first time he set foot in Moby Arena when he scored 0 and turned the ball over 3 times as the Rams rolled all over the Pokes. His athleticism was apparent but for his freshman year he shot 44% from 2-point range, 23% from 3-point range, and 64% from the free throw line.

Hardly the numbers that would allow you to think he would become a superstar.

But somewhere along the way Adams was able to harness his athleticism, his coaching staff was able to show him how he could get better, and the kid took it to heart.

His transformation and development over 4 years of play at Wyoming is nothing short of incredible as he improved measurably in all important areas in almost each and every year.

His 2-point shooting numbers are the only ones that don’t show linear growth- .441, .538, .519, .495

His 3-point numbers – .225, .307, .331, .376

His Free Throw numbers – .637, .736, .743, .823

His Assist Rate – 12.2, 21.8, 27.5, 32.4

His Defensive Rebound Rate – 5.0, 9.2, 10.7, 15.8

I think you’re getting the message. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone in the country who has shown this astounding development over four years.

So this is my way of giving Josh Adams the standing ovation he deserves from all fans around the Mountain West. He finished his career 5-3 vs CSU on a five-game winning streak against his rivals after being on the wrong end of the score in his first three.

And as a CSU fan, one can only hope that Adams’ legacy is that he put the final nail in the coffin of their current coach who needs to be put out to pasture.

I hope Hunter Thompson or other high level recruits read this, because this Wyoming coaching staff (Coach Shyatt and the assistants) are in my opinion in the top 10 in the country in developing recruits into the best they can be.

I don't think the guy is trying say anything bad about Josh . Rather he is showing how much he has become better over the course of his 4 years at Wyoming.

As far as the Jimmer and Josh comparison, Josh is a lot more athletic and has had a great senior year but Jimmer's senior year was even better. Jimmer was national player of the year. Jimmer averaged more points and took his team to the sweet sixteen. I don't think it is a slight at all to be compared to the national player of the year. I don't really see the big deal with him saying that.

I wouldn't call SwollCracker media per se, although he is more knowledgeable than their beat writer (Stephens). I do like his new name for team though (no "d").

Also, he was being very complimentary of Josh.

I didn't realize that was from SwollCracker , good catch.

I will say Josh does do one thing that Jimmer doesn't. That is try to play defense. Jimmer was amazing offensively but Josh as an all around defender is better than Jimmer. It would be hard to do much better than Jimmer did his senior year though just because he was shooting the ball from so deep like Curry does in the NBA. People love that stuff.

The best part is the CSU media guy (Steven) didn't even vote Josh on his preseason all conference list. Wonder if he will change his mind after Josh's performance....or will he continue to be a putz?

Go Pokes!!

Quote from the Matt Stephen's column on Sunday.

"In almost four full seasons under Eustachy, CSU has never seen such a dark night. And the sun? It’s not rising. Not this year. Not after the Rams’ fifth consecutive defeat in the Border War, a 84-66 loss to a sub-par Wyoming team.

And if the Cowboys are subpar, what does that make CSU?"

What an ass.

Also, who let Holmgren go to a wedding instead of covering the border war. Do they even have an editor in charge over there? Yeah Holmgren, go ahead and miss the rivalry game. It's not like you are Cowboy's beat writer or anything.

Hell, Eric Schmoldt covered the cowboys more this weekend than Holmgren.

Read that Hunter Thompson's dream school is Kansas. When you go to a Kansas, they expect you to play at a top level and don't emphasize development. If Hunter is serious about a potential NBA career, he needs a coaching staff that will help him realize his true potential. Four years with the current staff would assist him with his dream.

On topic of Holmgren, send that greenhorn back to Creighton country. Total hack. Hats off to Josh for owning Moby with a pretty decent crowd intact.

Really??? Holmgren has been pretty great. Much better than most of the ones we've had come through here. Just a step below Vorel in my opinion. Much better than Fredrickson and Schmoldt. IMHO

We'll never have another as good as Vorel. I have greatly enjoyed Holmgren thus far. I think his coverage has been great and his stories and articles have been great. No complaints from me

I really think Hunter will do well anywhere he goes but I also think this staff has proven to help players maximize their potential. I think he could acomplish everything he wants to acomplish here at UW. Yes I am saying that we could make a serious run in the tournament if Hunter came to UW and was coachable. I think the team that Shyatt is building is going to be very good even next year but more the 2018 team.
