This is the rumor right now in some Penn State wrestling circles. I hope not but given the crazy NIL right now would not be surprised in the least.

Unfortunately you’re absolutely right. Wyoming won’t be keeping world champ wrestlers when Penn State, Iowa etc are now paying wrestlers millions.

Yep, very true. So how many teams will actually be able to pay-to-play in wrestling, 20 - 30? The world of college athletics sucks right now.
Talked over the weekend to a cousin that works at Ohio State University. The school is crying the blues about the $37 million the football team lost to win the championship. Blaming a big portion on NILs and pay to play. Won't be public but even the big boys feeling or don't care for how currently structured.
Ultimately, the big schools created the monster and now can't control it. Like inflation, the price is just going to keep going up.

It seems strange with the youth Penn State has in the lower weights Lilledahl at 125 as a freshman and Braden Davis at 133 as a sophomore. The homer in me says Volk is better than those guys.
Penn State rivals board now questioning the rumor too:
Jore Volk transferring to PSU? (rumor)
(Mod - giving this topic it's own thread) I just saw Volk from Wyoming might be transferring??? Anyone else see this???

Penn State just signed world champion Masanosuke Ono from Japan, probably the best wrestler in the world. I think that puts the Volk to Penn State rumor to rest.
They aren't the same weight. Ono will be a 141. I would say Figs showing at NCAA may cool Iowa on him and Iowa I can guarantee is looking at Novak or Jore as stop gaps.

Articles I read said Ono is more likely to be 133 and Lilledahl has established himself at 125. Penn State doesn’t make sense for Volk is the point I was making.
And yes - I am doubtful we keep both Volk and Novak. Novak actually might have the most upside and could fetch Stephen Buchanan type interest.
