Jordan Naughton is our best rebounder.

Good things happen when he's on the court. It will be nice to see him get more minutes. Barnes doesn't get it yet. He gets pushed out of position and hasn't learned how to tip the ball to himself. Naughton gets it. Hopefully he'll get some more p.t.

He looks really awkward except on rebounding. He just turns and chucks it on most passes. I think he has a long way to go on both ends before he sees more playing time. Barnes looked good last game but terrible this game. They both are learning but out of the two I still prefer Barnes.

a beast, still growing, and gonna be a true dominant force inside and "it's about time", many many pieces to be put in place and lets try to enjoy this growth and wait for 3 years or so

Definitely need more out of our bigs. Yes they are young, but they need to grow up. Herndon, who had been playing well, didn't bother to show up. Barnes must have had some greasy food before the game....and at least one brain fart during. Naughton looks a little green, but think he has earned more pt.

Hope the team learns from this....no more sloppy passes, shoot better, etc.

Go Pokes!!

He (Naughton) is a freshman and could be our best rebounder with a little more work. Barnes is a sophomore and should get it now.

I think he is a smart / intelligent kid, and I like his personality and enthusiasm...but he is missing that quickness right now. He is about a second off when getting to the basket. I don't know how you teach that.

Who? Barnes or Naughton?

Barnes uses only about 180 pounds of his 250 pound frame.
If he took a crap before the game he could use all 180 pounds of 180 pounds. I never thought he should be in there in the first place. Just too slow and indecisive and really can't elevate.

Today's road win was another big night for Naughton. The kid just goes beast mode in the paint and OWNS his space. He's shown an ability to hit big free throws. He gets boards.

I like what I see from a young Jordan Naughton.

I liked Barnes going up strong on Defense tonight too. He got the foul, but it's the foul you have to get and he got it the right way tonight. He played big down low defensively.

This thread might now be titled Jordan Naughton is our best BIG. Until further notice that's how I'm feeling. He gives us the most complete key package that I want in a big man. He even looks kinda old school in play style. I can't believe that this dude just came out of nowhere like this for us too. Maybe Shy's got more tricks up his sleeves????

I don't think I would describe any of our bigs as "owning" much of anything on the court. I do like Naughton long term over Barnes though. A little bit more "ups" and aggression going to the rim when he catches off the screen and roll action we run. That's a key part of our offense and a big generator of dunks for Nance/Cooke last year. Barnes got stuffed a couple of times tonight against MWC quality bigs and he struggles to catch it.

I also like Naughton's FT stroke and was surprised by his mid range jumper in the first half.

Neither is quite ready, but a year from now we will have a pretty solid rotation at the 5. I think Naughton will be the starter by then though.

Naughton is much better at boxing out and it looks like he has more confidence in knowing where the rebound is coming off.

The free throw trend doesn't hurt either.

Barnes and him look like great pieces for the staff to develop.

Yeah I wish Barnes redshirted last year. How awesome would it be to have him an Naughton as both freshmen this year? We'd really be set down the road and its already looking good. If Dalton and Herndon start eating we could be extremely formidable in 2 years and solid next year. Fuck hand out protein shakes all around right now. These dudes need like 3 protein shakes a day just in between meals and real ass meals.

I would presume Shyatt, Watsabaugh, & Duval recognize the need for these guys to put on weight and are making the necessary dietary adjustments to do so.

If not, they are quite literally the worst strength coaches on planet earth.

Yeah I was wrong about Naughton. He looked good tonight. He does need more minutes. He was tough on both ends of the floor and looked a lot more calm in the offense.
