Throw Trey Washington to the wolves in game 1 and he might have been good?
Umm...he scored like 14 points game one of the season. Had another decent game. But got worse and worse throughout the season.
Adams got thrown to the wolves and then earned the right to keep playing.
Trey got his chance, showed he was good, then lost his playing time because he sucked.
He had 14 points game one of the season with extensive playing time...how is that not excelling? After that he never really got consistent playing time. Its hard to keep your confidence when you never play...It isn't a stretch to say adams wouldn't had the same results with the same amount of playing time his freshman year. Either way I believe him playing couldn't have had worse stats than Riley did all season

Well he didn't deserve more time. There was several times that he got in early didn't do sh_t and sat back down for the rest of the game. I remember one game in particular. Came in early in the first half, jacked up an air ball and dribbled it off his foot out of bounds twice in 2 minutes on the court. Why would you leave him in. Now I really beleive he will be a good player and his issues were with confidence. They could have handled his playing time maybe better early in the season but he would not have been a better pg than Riley this year. In the long run he very well could be but not this year.

Just looking at ESPN last night. Trey had 14 turnovers in 230ish minutes of court time. Grabau had the most time on the court by just over two hours...1130ish minutes and had only 40ish turnovers. Trey turned it over quite a bit more than Riley did, for the amount of minutes on the floor.

Trey will work hard and will be good next year or the year after. This year, though, e just lost confidence and didn't show that he earned playing time. He didn't know the offense, looked lost quite a bit, and tried to rush the offense.

Riley on he other hand knows Shyatt's game plan inside and out. Though he was a bit slower than the others, he was a very smart player and knew what to do and when to do it. Yes his shot disappeared when Nnce was out, because teams didn't have a first team threat to deal with. When that happened, he continued his reign as court general. He didn't score all the point (he barely scored any), but he provided that calming factor that slowed the team down and made then run Shyatt's offense rather than rushing the game and playing the other teams game. He is a role player, not a franchise player...and his role is that point guard who controls the game tempo and runs the coach's game plan, not score a bunch of points.

I guess my problem with Grabau is that it seems like when adversity hits, he completely vanishes. When Nance went down with injury, you would expect your veteran "floor general" to pick up his game, doing his best to help lift his team around him. I felt like once Nance got hurt, we saw Adams, Sobey, Granberry, etc, elevate their games significantly, while I felt like Riley and Bentz were interchangeable, it didn't matter which one was in the game, because their effect on the game was exactly the same. I'm one of the biggest mourners that trey never could take advantage of his opportunities, because from a talent perspective he is light years ahead, but it never manifested on the court.

I hope Grabau can be healthy next year, because he definitely can be effective filling a certain role, but I almost feel his legs would stay fresher and his shot and defense not suffer so drastically down the stretch if perhaps he plays a 6th man role, or at least plays significantly less minutes. I like Grabaus effort and all, but he is just limited on natural quickness and athleticism. Shyattt and co. have to figure out a better way to utilize him, because down the stretch this year, Grabau was completely useless, like playing 4 on 5 offensively and defensively.
