Jason Thompson

Most revealing revelation from yesterday's game might have been that our eyes were opened to the fact that Jason Thompson looks like he can play some ball.

Huge improvement from Kirkegaard...

I agree, JT didnt lose that game, the rain didnt help the way he was playing. He was torching the defense and kept getting better. In the second half the recievers couldn't catch a cold.

The way it was raining for awhile, I'm surprised they caught one ball.

I feel confident that he is an adequate backup qb and I think he'll be a special replacement at starting qb when Brett leaves the Cowboys one day.

He did a pretty good job and I was impressed. Sure, he could have completed a few more passes, and I'm sure the recievers aren't in tune with him yet, but not a bad first start!

I believe I mentioned earlier in the season he had the potential to be better than Brett. He played smarter yesterday as well. He took risks when he needed too and slid when he didn't. He didn't let his ego get in the way.

Good feet and a good arm for the short game. His shots down the field looked wobbly (although there were few and the weather obviously had some effect on them). Definitely looks like a gamer though, count me impressed.

I liked what I saw with him. Not quite the same poise in the pocket as Smith (powerful arm, but still not quite controlled enough), but he refuses to give up.

Tedder Easton is more like a rhino. Not the fastest guy by far, but he will run through defenders and drag them a ways.

With Thompson we have a very good backup QB who is going to only get better. I thought he did a very good job as a true Freshman in his second time of playing in a college D1 football game (and first start).

in tune? no matter the QB you should pull in a screen pass

Some of those throws were absolutely terrible though. I'm not sure if the ball was that wet or he was expecting them to be somewhere else when he threw the ball, but it wasn't quite there. I can think of a few bubble screen passes where I was left scratching my head as the ball went over the receivers head or went out of bounds etc.

In a few cases, it looked like he was going to try to get his reciever killed, or the ball intercepted. Just seemed out of tune.

For a first start he looked real good. He should have all the kinks worked out by the time he's going for the starting QB position at the University of Washington for the 2014 season.

Thompson looked quite good, which is important - given Brett's injury situation.

Riddle me this - why do you let Colby play at all against Cal Poly? Why wait a week to pull his redshirt? If Thompson plays that game, we win. Maybe they had hope that Kirk could play well enough to spare the redshirt - but he can't be much better in practice than during a game. Yet another point of frustration with this coaching staff.

Negative waves Moriarty.

Arrogance by CDC is the answer. He thinks he as built such a strong program that he could roll over Cal Poly with a QB that would not start for a competitive intramural flag football team.

Or maybe Thompson has just grown as a quarterback throughout fall practices. It's entirely possible he's a lot better now than he was a month ago.

I'll go with your post and add he is still learning this offense and still learning to read pass defense. I'm sure he is limited with the plays the coaches are comfortable with letting him run. If he starts next week, I think he have more plays at his disposal. For his first start I think he did a pretty damn good job.

He looked green, but he's obviously got the physical tools to play the game. I was pleasantly surprised by the way Thompson handled himself today, which really makes me wonder why Captain Kirk ever saw any time this season.

Well Brett did the same thing last year...I think some of the hype from this year has a lot to do with it... He needs to be grounded a little.. lets hope the rest of this year we see the Brett from last year only better.
