I've been a supporter, donor, and fan of UW Athletics for longer than most on this board have been alive. I've seen a "FEW" good times and teams (which include the coaches) during that period - few being the key word. The excuses during the times other than the times we were competitive were endless and the apathy and acceptance of mediocracy from our state government down through the board of trustees, the presidents, the athletic directors, and coaches has been very apparent. If the results of my job when I worked had been this bad, I would not have had much of a career. There was no commitment to excellence. Coaches held on to assistants that were inept when they knew they weren't getting the job done. The recruiting was not done at the level necessary to succeed - sometimes due to the lack of funds which can be blamed on the state legislature/governor, the board or trustees, the UW president, or the athletic director.
It's too late for me now. We can't continue to support UW Athletics the way we have in the past. I'll still be around for awhile reading and watching, but someone else will have to continue to push for excellence now.
