It's time

I've heard how much Cowboy athletics are underfunded at this time. I've also heard how much our coaching staff sucks. I actually think we have a good start to all of this. Christensen is a good hire - he just can't afford any assistants. Papa Shy is lucky because he has some loyalty and can afford to pay his assistants a low price.

I think Wyoming Athletics can support themselves. I also think that they need a shot in the arm to get the right coaches and peices in place to make it happen. Christensen makes alot and Shyatt does too - but those assistants need a good pay as well.

We need to help them pay the right people to come and make make this happen. It doesn't have to be permanent, they have lots of smart guys in the Athletics Department. We just need to recruit more coaching talent across the board.

When you consider the states budget, when you consider the gdp of the state, i don't think this is unreal. What is stopping us is letting our legislatures know that the need to put some bonuses over in athletics to get us back on par.

The 2014 Budget Session will convene February 10, 2014. It will take some work, but we can lobby these guys for 5 or 10 million (look at it this way - its something like 1 million bucks to pave a mile of road).

Should we put something together? Should we make our voices heard in the legislature? I think we can come up with ways how. If we can come up with a plan, I think we can get better coaching in. I think we can make Wyoming a powerhouse. Our legislature needs to hear us.

We need to come up with a plan:

1.) We should build a website that makes the Wyoming Legislature aware of what we think.
2.) We should look at what we can do to lobby the legislature for funding our athletics better.
3.) We need to come up with forward thinking ideas and make this happen.
4.) We need to come up with enough funding to turn the tide.

What do you guys think? Its time to go forward - we need to figure out how - and its time to put a plan together. All ideas should be open. All ideas should be assembled seriously.

What Wyoming needs is a Wyoming version of Boone Pickens. He saved Okie State by giving them roughly $750 million.

We could use that - that would be handy. Are you offering? If I had his kind of money I would help out the 'ol athletics department.

I don't though. All I have is ideas and a will to see the idea come to live.

How about getting a bar to put a $0.25 tax on each alcoholic beverage sold that would go to athletics. They could get a poster saying "We are our proud of our Cowboys and Support them with every drink."

We can sit around and wish, want, etc, but until we do something, nothing is going to get done. Let's get after the legislature. Lets get after the bars. Both are rediculous thoughts of mine - i hope you smarter folks come up with some better ideas! Get the people of Wyoming to Bandwagon together!

Love the enthusiasm, and I'm all ears as to ideas.....but damn, it seems like Wyoming....as well as all non-power 5 conference teams, have simply missed the bell. With the "haves" and "have not's" split is coming (some think its already happened) this is not the best of times to start a rally for support.

With that said, it is alarming to see CSU going forward with that fancy new stadium of theirs. I know there is a drastic difference between Wyoming and Colorado politics when it comes to that (funding for a stadium), but they got it done.....its happening....and it will change CSU football.... So while the timing of this isn't preferable, the Rams have proven that government officials either can be swayed, or don't pay attention to college football enough to know the realities of today's game. :P

Wyoming needs to do something. Colorado St. put their name in the arms race.....where is UW at?

CSU has some fluffy fur too. Politics wise, Northern Colorado is talking about seceeding from Colorado: http://www.wyomingbusinessreport.com/article.asp?id=65152" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We can make excuses all we want. Colorado State ain't going to do much without Wyoming close by. Wyoming has left conferences and CSU followed and vice versa. Who cares - give it a few years we'll be close again.

In the mean time, its time to stop making excuses why we can't get something done and actually get something done.

What do you guys want do do? Talk about how great we have been or could have been or get out there and actually get it done? It's not that tough - it just requires a slight mindset change. Thought is the bridge between the finite and the infinite. Let the ideas come together and head for the infinite - thats what I intend on doing.

It's a lack of interest across the state.
I think everyone of us on here knows people across the state that doesn't give two shits about Wyo athletics but pretends they do.
They ask you who won the game on Saturday? You say Wyo lost but it was only because this and that and this and that, and they say "Oh well."
If Wyo wins they say "Oh...neat".
But everyone in the state pretends they have pride about UW.
After Shyatt was hired for the hoops team, how many people in the state said with a half serious mumble "Hope he can turn it around" but still haven't been to a game? How many even know that he coached at UW previously?

Once enough people care, money will show up. Once the money is there, then the government will get involved.

We need some big season NOW to get a bandwagon of Wyo fans going, then hopefully fans/money start showing up.

I've said it before and I will say it again. Get a bus going from every major town in the state. Load people up, get them here!

The ship may be close to sailing, or might have sailed, but if it is close enough that Wyo/CSU can run out into the water and catch up to that ship real quick and hop on we should do it.

Wyo can not just sit here and do nothing.
When does the new president take over? July 1st? August 1st?
Anyways, it is soon. I pray to god he has a vision that isn't just academics, and I hope that he puts a big emphasis on the athletics.
I hope he sees what the Wyo-CSU rivalry is and thinks it should be just as big as the OU vs. OK St. rivalry.
