Pokes take on Western St. Saturday night in the AA at 8pm!

FINALLY!
After our first 20 win season in FOR EVER there is a lot of hype coming to the program, as there was with football. Here is to not having a collapse and actually living up to expectations AND exceeding them!

Go Pokes!
Who is going to be at the game???
I will for sure!

A little information about the Western State basketball team...

They were picked 8th out of 14 teams in the preseason poll for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They have already played two exhibition games, against Montana Western and Westminster College, and got blown out in both games. They play Weber State tonight.

The player to watch is their center, #42, Charles Joseph. He was a third team RMAC selection last year as a junior who was playing his first season with Western State after playing at Salt Lake CC. It will be interesting to see how our big men match up with him. He reminds me a lot of Leonard Washington in that he is an undersized player for the post, but isn't afraid to bang down low and works hard. I expect to see Washington and Joseph to be matched up on one another a lot throughout the contest...a battle Washington should win.

The difference in talent level between the Pokes and Western State is gigantic. This should be a game the Pokes dominate.

Also reminds me of leonard in how he transfered then in his first season as a jr got an all conference selection.
Nice. Yeah Leonard should win this match up. As Leonard will win most match ups all season long. Even MWC play.
Think Shyatt puts Adams on the court a lot?

I think Shyatt will handle Adams much like he did Nance Jr. last year. Shyatt is a guy who leans heavily on his most experienced players, especially early in the year. I look for Adams to see more and more time on the court as the season progresses.

Here is my guess at the starting lineup Shyatt will put on the floor on Saturday night:

G - Derrious Gilmore
G - Luke Martinez
G - Riley Grabau
F - Larry Nance Jr.
F - Derek Cooke Jr.

I expect Leonard Washington to come off the bench in this game, but he will see significant minutes and will be back in the starting lineup after a few games. Grabau will likely get the start on Saturday, but both Sobey and Adams will see some time on the hardwood. I think we will see less and less of Grabau as the season moves forward.

I think Adams will see a lot of time in this game. I expect us to have the game under control quickly and I think Adams will be given an opportunity to earn some time (plus, he will be playing against his brother Jordan who starts for Western State).

Somehow I missed a post or a thread about Washington. Would someone please reiterate why Washington has not been in the lineup?

The way I understand it, the exhibition games were to be part of Washington's suspension. He has been cleared to play from here on out.

Umm, he has been suspended from an arrest in april if that's what you're asking about
