And as Gagliardi recently mentioned in his latest Pokes piece, the Cowboys defense has not just been lacking a little bit, the entire defense has been horrid to the point where I actually see a regression over the first two games from last year.

I shudder to think what our defense will look like once the MWC schedule hits...all this positive talk coming from Cowboys defensive players is more than a bit troubling...if they cannot shut down this team this coming Saturday and show major improvement we could be in for a LONG and unexpected season.

I was glad to see that some of the players are pissed off. Korey Jones in particular sounded flat angry with the way they have been playing. I hope the defense has figured out that they need to circle the wagons and get nasty. If they continue on the path that they're on we're in BIG trouble for the season.

Jones was one of the few names I heard at the game that was actually doing something on defense. He made a lot of stops.

Him and Ghaali Muhammed seemed to be the only names i heard making tackles Saturday...Someone better step and start leading by example, not words. I though Luke Ruff was supposed to be our stud leader this year? What has he led? Led them out of the tunnel on Saturday but thats about it....

don't talk shit on luke if you don't even pay attention to what he does. along with other players, don't talk crap on players if you aren't even recognizing that they are making plays...

I did pay attention...Making a couple of big hits doesn't excuse him playing out of position most of the game and missing arm tackles multiple times the first two games. Yes I agree that he hit some guys really hard. That's not what makes a great leader...

Korey Jones is the only person on the team who has more tackles than luke. Look at lukes size, one of the smallest DB's we have, there is a reason he is on the team he is a captain. He knows the D and how it is supposed to work more than anyone else out there. What about when he blitzes and doesn't make the tackle, but he does chase the qb right into korey jones on the other side? What about when the qb doesn't throw the ball to that slightly open reciever because luke ruff is closing in on him from deep in the secondary? Luke is still 8th in the MWC in tackles, 2nd on the team, and makes plays that set up other D players, or makes it so the opposing offense won't make that certain play. If luke wasn't being an effective player/leader, he wouldn't be the captain, and starting. He would be benched. Bottom line.

Is it really the players who are playing badly? Or is it the defensive alignments the coaches are using? A good coach would make an assesment of the player skills and design a defense that maximises what he has. Has he been doing this?
