Is UW switching back to the 3 - 4?

Interesting, based on recruiting, it could be a possibility I believe.

So far, I read that there are 0 DT's verballed, and only 1 DE, while 4 LB's have verballed:

Korey Jones, 6'2" 215
Eddie Yarbrough, 6'3" 215
Alex Borgs, 6'1" 220
Malkaam Muhammad, 6'0" 210

And also what about this LB...from Houston who verballed as well...

Kevin Palin, 6'0" 195

So, with the influx of LB's, and maybe the return of Ghalli to Strong Safety, what do you all think?

I'm not sure the Palin commitment is correct. From what I understand, we've never offered.

I'm not sure about a switch, but according to Ian, the JUCO DE is about 285 and Yarbrough is closer to 235 and could be moved to DE.

I'd like to see us grad another DT in this class....losing Lee sucks. We do have some depth at the DT position with the two JUCO along with Purcell, Strong, and Durbin. Could us more though

Lastly, from what I've read, we have another commit who hasn't been identified as of yet. He is taking an official visit this weekend and should be a commit next week. He was our #1 target at DB...some think it might be Zoey Williams who Scout shows as a UTEP commit. I guess we'll see if this pans out. Good get if so.

Personally, I doubt it. DC is a big time supporter of the 4-3. If it was up to him, we probably would have been running a 4-3 in his very first season. Toward the end of that first year he was already putting in some 4-3 sets. It would take a miracle to convince him we would be better off with a 3-4.

We are really only brining in 3 LB's. Malkaam Muhammad could play a number of different positions, and I'll bet he is placed somewhere other than LB. With all the depth we have at LB, especially with the caliber of guys we brought in in this recruiting class, Muhammad would be stuck way down the depth chart if the coaches put him at LB. On a side note, I think the coaches would be making a HUGE mistake by moving Yarbrough to DE. That guy has a chance to be an all-time great UW linebacker. At DE...who knows. I think he has the ability to either play the strong side OLB position or the MLB position. As JimmyDimes stated, Kevin Palin is not a UW commit. It seems there was some miscommunication there.

Also, the coaches have stated Ghaali Muhammad will be moving to RB, not SS. I actually wish they would move him back to SS. He is the prototypical SS, and I think he would really excel at that position.

Don't forget that the prior recruiting class had 5 defensive lineman commits in it. Thus, I think the staff recruited that position a bit lighter this year. I think they would have liked to sign a bigger DT type player, but Lee decommited. Their biggest miss was probably on Fanoga's nephew, Brandon Tuliaupupu. He would have been a monster DT for us.

Damn...forgot about that move. I agree with what you said, he would be a phenominal SS...quite possible giving himself an opportunity to excel and play on Sundays.

4-2-5 or 3-3-5 is the way to go. Get exotic with our defense because we aren't going to line up and beat people on the line of scrimmage. Taking away a line backer in either the 4-3 or 3-4 and getting a hybrid safety is the best way to counter most college "spread" offenses

Then we are never going to win. At some point you have to either recruit or develop some horses on the line if you want to compete for championships. TCU still has some mean Defensive Lineman, even though they may run a non-traditional defense.

If you look at last years depth chart here are the D lineman

Left Defensive Ends
44 Josh Biezuns (6-2, 249, Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.)
34 Mat Birkeness (6-4, 250, So., Littleton, Colo.)

Left Defensive Tackles
50 Mike Purcell (6-3, 269, So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.)
15 Ben Durbin (6-3, 256, So., Gilbert, Iowa)

Right Defensive Tackles
95 Patrick Mertens (6-5, 269, RFr., Sterling, Colo.)
62 Eric Lawson (6-3, 295, Sr., Castle Rock, Colo.)

Right Defensive Ends
52 Gabe Knapton (6-3, 251, Jr., Mead, Colo.)
34 Mat Birkeness (6-4, 250, So., Littleton, Colo.

Out of that group we lost one senior, Lawson, who did not start. If we also had 2 Freshman and 2 JC players redshirted then we already had 11 D lineman going into recruiting. We added 2 in this class, pending of course, so we have about 13 Dlineman on the roster That is 3 deep plus one. Not an expert here by any means but should we be more than 3 deep on the DLine?

We will never be 3-4 again as long as DC is coach. Why does the 3-4, 4-3 keep getting brought up? Any system works if your dudes execute.

Don't leave out tyler strong who was a top backup at DT as a true fresman (I think he will be a good one).

Need a serious hole-plugger at NT to run a 3-4. That defensive scheme is a total disaster without one.
